The above question was inspired by a response to my previous question. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with the person who provided such insight.

Most examples of the harm we cause people dealt with physical violence. Can you provide for me ways in which you feel our words may be harming the other people who use this forum??

Or do you not think that words can cause harm??

Elaborate, please. Thank you.

Absolutely. Your pen has hurt me, as mine has hurt you. I don't think I need to elaborate.

Your question also makes reminds me of a verse from a Hanukkah song called Rock of Ages. (We sang this in public school when I was a child, along with Christmas carols.) It goes like this:

Rock of Ages let our song,
Praise thy saving power;
Thou amidst the raging foes,
Wast our shelt'rng tower.

Furious they assailed us,
But Thine arm availed us,
And Thy word broke their sword,
When our own strength failed us.
And Thy word broke their sword,
When our own strength failed us.

Edit - thanks for your apology as well, Spooky.

This is such an interesting medium. I like it in a way as you can not disern the sarcastic from the serious. It eliminates you tone when you speak. Granted, of late, I have been being kind of a jerk on here. I of course was making an effort to amuse myself, and in that forgot that you really can't tell that from the question and answer format in text. For that I apologize to any who were seriously offended. If you dig into my questions, you will find that I generally am all about tolerance. The written word can, and is much sharper than the spoken, and that being said, they are both more deadly than a sword, as well spoken words inspire people who weild swords.

yeah the pen is mightier if people still read, but it takes so long who wants to wait I think maybe a little something in the DC water might be a better alternative, never tried it myself but maybe some X.

seriously

Words can and do cause harm. Actually the physical violence is usally caused by words either written, yelled, or enforced. Exasperation is often caused by either words or in some cases the lack of needed words.

Words can indeed harm. Many times we answer and speak without thinking. We do not know what another is going through or what damage a few unkind words may cause. Words echo long in a persons heart and mind. Much like the gentleman who earlier called me "the walking dead." I do not hold it against him however as so many of us have no idea of the person on the other keyboard.

words can be more harmful to people.. words can scar a person for life, those scars can't be seen, yet the effects are truly life altering. I would say that the pen is mightier than the sword.

Thank you for the compliment, but I'm afraid my pen has been up to no good lately - that's why I updated my avatar with a more appropriate descriptive. BTW, isn't ironic for me to be a christian, but to be so heavily influenced by an
atheist (Neil Peart) who was also influenced by another atheist (Ayn Rand)?

...man just imagine what you could do with a sword-pen!

I would say that a pen in the right hand is certainly mightier than a sword, but mostly because it can inspire the usage/nonusage of many swords.

It depends on what the pen or sword is used for.
I'd say pen,it's like a sword (kind of),because it can be used as a weapon like a sword (only not as intimadating). You can create with a pen, though(a story, picture).A sword makes you destroy.

Anyone who thinks the pen is mightier than the sword needs a nice beheading to demonstrate the fallacy of their logic.
