This takes lots of time and patience. First you must give him/her a chew toy. Then when you catch him chewing something that he's not supposed to give him a firm NO! and remove him or the thing he's been chewing on from the situation. Give him the chew toy and a few minutes later (so as to create two different instances) if he's still playing with the toy praise him. This lets him know whats okay to "play" with and what's not. This whole process takes some time and can be frustrating. Good luck and hang in there.

Watch the Dog Whisperer! Cesar rocks! He teaches dog "parents" how to be "pack leaders." It shows the dog who is boss and what he should and shouldn't do. It's on the National Geographic channel.
Other than that, get some chew toys and keep substituting them when your puppy chews. DON'T get chew toys that look like shoes. Your dog won't know the difference between YOUR shoes and the toys. You may need to get some sour apple spray to put on objects he/she ALWAYS chews. That way he/she gets a bad taste and will hopefully stop. Keep consistant!

Buy Bitter Apple Spray at your local pet store. Then, soak a cotton ball with it and give it to your dog. Your dog will hate it. Then spray what ever it is that you do not want chewed. When your dog goes to chew it he will remember the horrible taste and stop chewing.

Raw hides are WONDERFUL for puppies. Also, toys that your puppy will enjoy. I keep raw hides available to my puppies at all times. It helps keep them from chewing things that they shouldn't be. Your puppy will want to chew all of the time, so keep raw hides, greenies, and toys available to him/her. We keep a small toy box in our living room for our puppies, and they know that when they want a toy, or rawhide, that's where they go.

Keep it busy with teething tough toys, spray chewed areas with dog repellent (they hate the smell of Vicks Vaporub) or try a crate while you're not there.
