OK, well first of all the answer to your question is around 6900 miles.
Next a response to the others who have left answers to your question. congratulations on you knowledge of geography, but its obvious you have never travelled inter-continentally before because Newark, as you have pointed out by looking in your atlas' is technically in New Jersey, HOWEVER it is also classed as a NEW YORK airport due to its location.
That is according to IATA (International Air Transport Association) The organisation who act as the intermediary between the airline (makes sure they all work from the same page) and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Authority) The people who govern the way the world is split in terms of aviation areas and the rights of airlines to fly to and from destinations).

And one more thing, if you are travelling to Manhattan for example, the distance you you travel between there and EWR (Newark) or JFK (JFK international airport) is more or less the same in terms of mileage cause one is to on side of Manhattan and the other airport is the other side.
However, In terms of time is is actually more convenient to travel to Newark as the connections between there and Manhattan are far better. The is a direct train to central station, Direct coach services, and a more direct freeway. so its ultimately quicker and more hassle free to go to New York via New Jersey than Direct to New York.

Enjoy.

Newark is not in New York - it's in New Jersey - it's across the bay from New York City.

Now you can go look it up on an Atlas, since you didn't really know where Newark was anyway!
