If there is a catastrophe, you have a "back up" food supply.

Having a pet is GREAT.. Here are some reasons WHY...
1. A pet teaches you responsibility.
2. You can get lots of exercise by walking your pet.
3. If you get lonely, you have a friend to play with.
4. You can save a pet's life by adopting one from a shelter.
5. The pet needs a friend.
6. A pet always greets you at the door even when you've had a bad day.
7. When your Mom makes a terrible dinner, your pet can clean it up.
8. A pet can guard your house.
9. A pet can make a boring car trip much more fun.
10. The pet will love you, no matter what!

I recently had an issue with this when I purchased my Saltwater fish tanks. I came to the conclusion that no matter what the animal is, I know that I will give it the best life possible. I will treat it with kindness, provide shelter, keep it safe and feed it only the best food. It will not have the fear of hiding from preditors. What more can anyone ask for than to feel safe? There are some out there unfortunately who treat their animals as less than. These are the people who should not and don't deserve pets. Pets have feelings also and should receive the respect that we want for ourselves. This is why I have "PETS!!!"

My dog is hardly enslaved. His life is much cushier than if he lived in the wild. He is guaranteed food, water, treats, toys, a warm dry place to sleep, and lots and lots of playtime and love. He has full run of the house and pretty much does whatever he wants. I don't really think he has it too bad. I feel sorry for the animals that don't have homes. Or the ones that are kept outside in kennels or chained to dog houses. They are the ones that have it bad.

A human and a dog can adore each other, learn from one another, keep each other warm in cold times and they are both capable of protecting the other should the occasion need it.
On a general level it is the human pandering to the dog (feeding, vets visits, walks in the rain, training etc...) not the dog being enslaved!
Would you prefer all dogs born to roam the streets in packs, not mans friend at all?

Peta aha!!!!
Tell me a good reason to kill 10,000 puppies last year in the name of saving animals from people!
Pets are a healthy way for a person to give and receive love unconditionally
Enslaving? What do u mean like on the flintsones when the run on a treadmill under the kitchen sink...oh yeah thats a cartoon..............
I have to say my pets dont have any chores around the house.

why don't you ask the next blind person you see that question.
or the little old lady that has no other companion.
or the 14 year old that's not addicted to drugs because a dog sniffed them out.
or the 17 year old who lived after being rescued from an avalanche.
or my daughter who loves and is loved by our shiz-tzu. hmmm?? i wonder if my dog would live a healthy and enjoyable life if i throw him out???
these animals are not slaves. they live long, healthy and enjoyable lives. the only pets you see that are not happy are ones that are not taken care of properly.
good day.

Why does PeTA steal pets and PTS? Why do they kill 86% of the animals they 'rescue'? Why did PeTA kill all those dogs and kittens in the back of their van and throw them in dumpsters? What use does PeTA have for the large freezers at their headquarters? Why does HSUS raise funds with pictures of cute puppies and then use those funds to push anti-animal laws? Why is HSUS under investigation for their misuse of funds in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina? Why is it the only help HSUS offers local HS's is the use of their mobile euthanization unit? Why do these groups fund domestic terrorists?
Why do you hate animals? If you don't like them, don't have one, but LEAVE MINE ALONE!!!

as long as you treat the animal as you would want to be treated, I dont see any problem with it. I wouldnt want to be a pet in manhattan, people just leave them inside their little apartments all day. pets here are just fashion accessories. having a bird as a pet is one of the most evil things i can think of.
My cat at my moms house can go out whenever she wants to. That is how I would want to be treated.

to save their life
there is no good reason for intentionally breeding and making more animals to be pets - particularly birds and rodents who are often housed inadequaltey and must be extremely bored....
so many cats and dogs are in humane shelters and SPCA's awaiting homes - I adopted mine, not for the purpose of "having a pet" but for the purpose of "saving a life"

For you, I wouldn't recommend entrusting the care of an animal to you.
Unfortunately, we live in a world of domesticated animals. I think my dogs do quite well for themselves. They lay around the house all day, get fed, only rarely have to work when I take them to shows and competitions, get treats, new toys, trips to the river, vacations to lake houses....
So who's the slave? It sounds like me. Working to keep them in kibble.
