Yes, and originally they didn't want to be a separate religion. Even Jesus spoke of how he had not come to change the law but to fulfill it. It was important to Jesus to be a good Jew. Jesus set an example of what a good Jew was, not what a Christian is. Interesting, isn't it.

I think the Bible makes the same claim. I believe that gnostic Christianity did originate in Judaism, but that the Christianity we know was a spin off of gnostic Christianity combined with Egyptian and Greek paganism.
It's blatantly obvious that the NT was originally penned in Greek, by people who knew just enough Hebrew to be dangerous, but were not fluent in it. The Gospels were written to try to appeal to the gnostic sects and pull them into the New Age of Pisces religion we now call Christianity.

You don't need the Dead Sea Scolls to tell you that. You've got some Jews who think Christ has come - they start their own little group away from the others who fail to believe them. That is pretty clearly how Christianity started and pretty clearly represents a sect.

Judaism was the reigning religion. Christianity did not start until after Christ. Jews converted to Christianity.

Of course, after Christ was crucified. What's the point of your question? Is it supposed to make us Christian's runn away from our belief's? We know we were all Jews in the past. That is no secret. Alot of our rituals have some Jewish overtones. No big woop, Dog!

You could find that fact in the Bible in the book of Acts.
Jesus, the 12 disciples and the early church were predominately Jews.

Christians broke away from Judaism because it was impossible to find converts willing to be circumcized. Do you ever wonder why the first church was the *Roman* Catholic Church?
