Medical negligence is quite a specialised area so you need a specialist solicitor. If you have mobility problems then you probably want someone relatively local, so you could try going onto the Legal 500 website and searching for a recommended firm in your area. http://www.legal500.com/
You might have to check with the individual firm whether they do medical negligence. Or you could always try an internet search.
Can I suggest you steer clear of "claims farm" type companies who advertise on TV etc? They tend to take on stacks of claims and have them dealt with by unqualified people, with little or no supervision. I used to do defendant insurance law and came across a lot of firms like that; in my experience it made matters drag out longer because one party had no idea what they were doing.

My heart goes out to you - I'm going through something similar myself - my surgeon cut the outer layer of my spinal cord during what was supposed to be a routine laminectomy. This resulted in a CSF leak, five weeks of agonising headaches, sickness and not being able to even sit up in case my brain literally 'dropped'. I eventually had to have further surgery to try and repair the tear. I now have nerve damage to my sciatic nerve, still have the original disc out of place and a lack of mobility has left me with an arthiritic spine and am now registered disabled with awful pain on walking, standing or sitting. I also have hearing and nerve damage problems in my ears due to loss of CSF around my brain.
This all happened over a year ago and until recently, I have been solely concentrating on getting as better as I can. I have now realised that this is going to have an impact probably for the rest of my life and I have found a very good solicitor in Leicester who is looking at the possiblity of a med neg case for me...he specialises in medical negligence involving spinal surgery.
As far as I can see, it's a long, painful and very dubious road to go down, you really need to assess to what extent your quality of life has been, and will continue to be effected by your unfortunate experience.
I wish you all the best and hope you make a full recovery in the future.

If what you say is really true, there is no NHS trust in the land that would not quickly settle out of court for a large sum. Given this, you will have lawyers biting your hand off to take the case as there's nothing they like more than an easy win. Take your time. Find a the right lawyer with a good reputation at the right price.
I'm sorry for your suffering, and hope that the problems you are experiencing are not permanent or too disabling.

Hi,
From what you say, this does not sound like negligence as that would imply that he/she made a mistake. What you had was a complication of the operation where damage to nerves and structures around the operation site is always a possibility - im sure this would have been explained to you as a risk when you consented for the operation - if not then you were not fully informed and so you would have a case about that.

Medical negligence is rather a specialized area so that you need a specialist solicitor. You want an attorney well, seems like an open and shut case of neglect, and you want settlement for this. All the best. Has the surgeon affected acknowledged he made a mistake?

i took on my local health authority over medical negligence, it took 4 years but i won. Find a lawyer who you feel comfortable with, check out several before you commit as you will end up bearing your soul to these people. Good luck and sorry you had a bad experience, i wish you all the luck in the world angel xx

You need a lawyer alright, sounds like an open and shut case of negligence, you need compenstion for this. Good luck. Has the surgeon involved admitted he made a mistake? I wish you luck.

In some States you only have a year to file a claim for medical negligence so open up your phone book or call your local bar association and find an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice quick!

Since you are no longer able to work or actively look for work you will be entitled to legal aid, You should be entitled to compensation for the pain you have had to endure and will probably suffer for the rest of your life. Good luck

Then contact a lawyer. They will give you a free consultation and if you have a case (which they will decide) they will take it for no money up front--their payment will come out of your settlement.
