i want to buy something with my debit card, but i have insufficient funds in my bank account to pay for it. Ive heard that you can put things on credit with your debit card. If so, how much time will they give me in order to put money into my account if i purchase it on credit?

Sir,

What you are given when you use the CREDIT feature on a DEBIT card is at best a 2-3 day float.

That is, you purchased on 01-01-06 and it clears your bank CHECKING account on 01-03-06. This is in effect a 2 day float.

If you want true CREDIT features, you will have to apply for, be approved for, and use a credit card.

Sorry.

A debit card is not a credit card, even though it appears as if they run it through like a credit card, the money comes out immediately from your bank account. You don't get an bill in the mail. Two things can happen, the card can be denied at the store where you want to use it, or the purchase will go through, but the bank will charge you an overdraft fee for overspending your bank account. those fees can be pretty big so be careful.

If you have to ask that question, you shouldn't even have a debit card. If you don't have the cash to purchase it, then you don't get to have. Simple. But answer you question, a debit card takes money directly from your checking account. So if you don't have money in the checking account, it debit card is useless. And NO you can't purchase like credit with a debit card.

You cannot use a debit card if you do not have the funds.

You probably have heard that you can use the debit card like a credit card, but that only refers to the processing of the transaction--i.e. you won't have to use your PIN and you will have VISA/MasterCard protection against fraud. The funds for either kind of transaction do come from your bank account.

To buy something on credit, you need a charge or credit card specifically designed for that purpose.

None at least with my bank. Your card will most likely be denied unless you have overdraft protection. If you do use this. They will hound you to get the money back in the account within two weeks. The will charge you a fee for using the overdraft coverage.

Some banks don't allow you to access your overdraft coverage with your debit card.

It depends on the store. Generally it is taken out of your account that same day if it is before 2pm. No matter if you use it as credit or debit some stores will only recognize it as a debit card.

Look for the customer care number at the back of your credit card or in their mails to you. This provision differs from Bank to Bank and also on your credit rating with them. Just one phone call and they will give you precise details. Usually for a crdit card withdrawal the payment cycle may be 20,30 or 50 days without any charges. And there is a Minimum Amount Due option also.

the 1st answer is a sturdy one, different than i do no longer believe wearing a stability and paying interest. The financial employer makes funds every time you employ the credit card - they value the seller a value. this is not "undesirable" to pay off your stability at recent, in spite of the shown fact that that's recommended to alter somewhat to construct credit. What exhibits on your month-to-month assertion is what exhibits on your credit record. once you're paying each and every thing off asap, your month-to-month assertion probable exhibits 0 stability. So your credit record will teach which you have been making on-time funds (sturdy element), yet yet another creditor might seem at that and picture you weren't honestly utilising the cardboard. once you're basically beginning out and don't plan to carry on with for extra credit in the close to destiny, shop doing what you're doing. Your financial employer is getting funds and could probable enhance your credit cut back after a at the same time as (sturdy on your credit record). in case you do plan to carry on with for credit in the subsequent 6 months and characteristic the credit cut back to cover your spending, decrease back to paying it off a week or every time you gets a commission.
