Try watching a couple of old movies from the time. You'll see a pretty good cross section of what bedrooms for rich folks looked like. Just remember to ignore the twin beds.

A wealthy family in the '40s could have had many different styles in their bedrooms depending on location -- trends at the time were quite different in Europe than in North America, and depending on their age and social group. Even today, some wealthy homes have bedrooms full of antiques while others have the latest and trendiest styles.
To really get the answer you're looking for, you will have to spend time looking through some books that discuss the history of design or the history of furniture. One great book is "Furniture: A Concise History" by Edward Lucie-Smith. Good luck.

Typically, bedrooms of the 1940s had 'suites' of furniture. Wealthier homeowners might feature antiques as well. Some bedrooms featured wallpaper "murals" with slightly surreal landscapes (popular due to the work of Dali which became fashionable at the time) on the wall of the 'head' of the bed. Matching bedside lamps might have trim on the shades while curtains (full-length, with valances) and bed spreads (usually quilted) would frequently feature the same fabric. Large floral prints were popular, also "Americana" due to the patriotic feeling of the era as well as "French Provencial". Wall-to-wall carpeting was readily available to a mass market during this time. Popular colors were "dusty" pink, apple green, and "Wedgewood" blue. Dorothy Draper and Billy Baldwin were two leading decorators of the era who designed many homes for the weathy and famous. Check out "The Greenbrier Hotel" for some basically preserved interiors of Draper from the era.
