How is this fair? Maybe people don't care, are happy worshipping as they are (or are not), or whatever. Do Jehova's Witnesses ever get arrested for solicitation? If you disagree, why? Also, why can't would be beleivers come to a faith, instead of having it presented to them? Muslims have quite a following, even in the US, and they don't go door to door.

Actually the Supreme Court of the United States answered that question 60 years ago.

It stated that Jehovah's Witnesses are not soliciting, they are ministers.

Therefore, if you place a "No Soliciting" sign on your door, The Supreme Court said it doesn't apply to Jehovah's Witnesses.

No, it should not.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "change his mind". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I wish it was illegal in the UK. The last thing you need when your cooking the dinner or bathing the baby is some guy knocking on your door preaching at you.

We do have neighbourhoods in the uk that have signposts up preventing door to door sales, but im not sure if it would stop the Jehova's witnesses or if they see themselves at above that.
Ive taken to telling them im a devil worshiper and offering them a free copy of my magazine.. it tends to send them packing.

It should not be illegal. Is it fair that you would deprive others who may WANT to hear what we have to say of hearing it simply because you don't want to know? How hard is it for you to politely say, "I'm not interested, but thank you."? God always warns people before taking action against them. He decides how the warning is to be given. We go door to door because that's how Jesus said to go about warning people that God is about to take action against this world. Note what Matthew 24:14 says: "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

Notice also Romans 10:13-15: For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.” However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach? HOW, IN TURN, WILL THEY PREACH UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN SENT FORTH? Just as it is written: “How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!”

Why is it such a big deal for people to take a few minutes to talk to their neighbors politely? What's so hard about saying "I'm not interested"? I'm sure if we were Ed McMahon coming to your door with a check from Publishers Clearing House you'd be delighted to see us...but we bring you a life saving message from GOD ALMIGHTY and you're ready to have us arrested for it. Go figure.

It should be illegal to go door-to-door soliciting ANYTHING. I am tired of feeling obligated to buy candy bars from spoiled little soccer brats.

I think it should be illegal to go to people's doors and pester them for any reason. It should also be illegal to telephone people or send them trash on computers. Solicitors invade privacy. Someone tried to justify JW's by saying they have freedom of expression. Well, I may express myself by tossing them down the hall if they come to my place.

It 'should' be legal to post a no trespassing sign and then have those that ignore it arrested for trespassing.
