My wedding dress is in (1 week after I ordered it, and they told me it would take 15!) and I need to go pick it up. I wasn't expecting it so soon, so I'm not really ready to go get it. They said I have a week to pick it up-I'd like to just get it altered while it's already there. My question....
I'm having a beach wedding and we aren't wearing shoes. So, my dress is going to be taken up quite a bit. I'm not sure what to wear to the reception that we have back home though. It will obviously have to be something flat so the dress isn't too short (sad because I LOVE heels!)....but I'd really like to have whatever I'm going to wear before I go get fitted. Any ideas (websites?) for cute flat shoes? (no flip flops!) I really only wear heels, so I have no idea what would look good.

I really like the breakaway seam idea...but they'll be taking the length up from the waist...so I'm assuming that won't work? Here is the dress:

Yes, I know the dress is "pretty snazzy" for a beach wedding....but, it is my wedding, which will only happen once. And after trying on many dresses (some much more fit for the beach), this is the one I fell in love with.

That's where I got my wedding shoes- free shipping and return shipping, so you can get multiple sizes and return the one(s) that don't fit.
I'd suggest a low heel, 1 to 1 1/2"- it won't raise the hemline that much, and you'll be more comfortable. The dress looks like it's cut to show your shoes a little anyway, an inch shouldn't be a problem....

I really think you should go with either fancy flip flops, Fancy Sandals of some sort, or Ballet Slippers.

Also, I got my dress at David's Bridal and I would recommend getting the alterations done somewhere else. They charge you 2x - 4x the cost than it would cost to have it altered somewhere locally. This is my one regret. Make sure to pass along the information to the bridesmaids too. For example: I was in a wedding as a bridesmaid it cost me like $100 or something ridiculous (I don't even want to talk about how much my wedding dress cost to alter there) to have my dress altered at David's. One of the other bridesmaids when to a local tailor or something and only paid $20-$25. Unless you have a fortune to spend on your wedding or bridesmaids do, then I really recommend going somewhere else.

the dress is pretty i think you should go barefooted then for the reception you should wear something else so you can where your heels because even if you do still wear you dress to the reception you wont be able to wear heels being the dress will be shorten for the wedding so just make it easy on yourself buy another dress or i was not looking but if it is a 2 piece dress you could buy the longer bottom to the reception with your heels you know the the long but straight dress

You could wear ballet shoes. Here is a website:

Or you could wear something with a little heel:

This is similar to what I wore. They were so comfortable:

I hope that some of these shoes help you out a little bit. Your dress is really beautiful and I'm sure you will make a beautiful bride. Nobody will really notice your shoes anyways. But, I do know that it does matter to you!!! You don't have to go to short if you have time to dry clean your dress you can get the sand off the dress, or don't worry about it. I wouldn't, people know you are getting married on the beach right? Or, having a destination wedding so who cares?

Pretty snazzy dress for a beach wedding. Especially with that train. What were you thinking? I would have gone with an organza type overskirt with a hankerchief hemline...casual yet elegant.

Anyway, why not stick with high heels, since you like them so much. Just get some slip ons that look like glass slippers. I know they have them available because I've seen them on TV. Get the ones that are made completely from see through glass substitute. (Was it Oprah I saw them on?) Anyway, seeing as they will be completely see through, they will be almost like staying in bare feet anyway.

I agree ballet flats or maybe a low heeled open toe slingback shoe. These are really cute & still have a small heel...

If your going to wear a Tiara, let me know. I know of a great website where you can get one for only $35 - $50. David's Bridal charges to much for Tiara's.
I can't believe their in a rush for you to pick up your dress. I left mine at David's Bridal for 4-5 months before I even went in for my fitting. I'd talk to the manager before you get in a rush to have it altered. I wouldn't get it altered till 1 month before the wedding.

Crystal Studded Flip-Flops or sneakers
You could even do them yourself and the bridesmaids do the same. My niece did this at her wedding and they were beautiful.
These are like the ones they wore but in white.

Did you tell the store that you aren't ready to pick up the dress yet since it wasn't supposed to be for another 3 months? That doesn't seem right. You shouldn't have to rush like this.

see if the tailor can have the dresshave 2 inches in a break away seam so that after the wedding you can take the 2 inches down and wear heels. it wouldnt be too hard to do that.

I got my dress from david's bridal also and I have a situation similar to yours where I have to get my dress hemmed a lot. I bought a pair of their satin slipper shoes and absolutely fell in love with them.
I actually felt like Cinderella when she tries on her glass slipper. You should ask David's Bridal about their shoes. I think mine came to be $38 so that is not bad at all!!!

Personally, I'd be speaking with the bridal store and making waves about being forced to pick up a dress that wasn't suppose to be delivered for another three months, and refuse to rush myself into making a decision about shoes because of it. For them it's about dollars, for you it's about a day you want to cherish for life... they'll get over it.
