You haven't said if the wedding will be in the UK or in India so i presume India.
I Feb this year, me and my wife were invited to a friends wedding in Punjab which is central India.
We are not remotely indian so had a lot of concerns over safety and the wedding it'self.
Drop me an email me obzi@yahoo.com and i'll answer any questions and tell you what happened with us.
It really is far too much to go into here.

Very long well the siks one is !!!! takes about 4hrs of prayers and walking round of the bride and groom, .like a circle dance. most wedding consists of dowerys and then their is the preparation. Dishes are mostly served and eaten with fingers, almost everyone dipping in to different dishes.. make sure you take some baby wipes.. those stains are killer to get out! Call the bride before you agree to anything, make sure you understand, gestures handshakes, especially when in india. Common small mistakes could be costly.
But overall it will be an experience you wont forget. Although they are extremely long. Just get into it and you will be fine. study a bit about it before hand so you know what to expect, otherwise you will be extremely bored not knowing what is really going on.
Weddings are a big thing and india's sure know how to go about. Have a wonderful time.

Oh lucky you! My best friend had a Hindu blessing as part of her wedding day, and even tho it was only for about 45 mins or so, it was amazing! The colours of all the guests clothes, the rituals were fascinating (even tho we couldnt understand what they were saying!) and the way that all my friends aunties were involved in feeding the happy couple the sweetbreads (think thats the right word)....
What to expect? lots of colour, praying in a different language, family members being involved in things like putting garlands on the happy couple etc.... Hope this helps, have lots of fun!! Bxx

if its in INDIA, then prefer to wear traditional clothes of the place.
Dont wear any exposing dress , just try to befriended with person who knows culture n practices of that communty n who also knows English. so u can know whats happening n u can question him /her on some other matters?
Try to taste indian dishes just in qty. to which ur stomach allows?
n dont be over-friendly with any one, (especially guys).
in this season there is climate change over india , so keep that in mind

It's big , if anything like the one I went to. very clouorful and many different gestures and routines who us others won't neccessarily understand. hopefully you are seated next to someone who will be willing to explain the procedures as it goes along. the one I attended lasted ages, but was worth while as it was interesting to observe others customs. find out whether it will be appreciated to wear some traditional clothes . it is a good excuse to wear a sari, if it is permissable. enjoy it! .
