I used to smoke 20 a day and then after I saw the doctor who told me I was 5 weeks pregnant I completely stopped.
It's not hard at all when you think about someone else, instead of yourself. I just thought my poor baby doesn't choose to smoke, so I can hold on for no booze and fags for 9 months.
Although I have had a couple of drags from my husbands' ciggerette.
I can wait though. Although I do want to give up for good, I know when I'm back drinking wine, I'll spark up.....
I did hear on the radio this morning that young girls are smoking while pregnant so their babies will be smaller and won't cause so much pain in birth - I think that's really really bad to do.

well here goes smoked through whole first pregnancy baby boy was born perfectly healthy and still is at 8 yrs.old. 2nd baby quite smoking at 2 weeks pregnant (when i found out) she was born with a heart murmur and has asthma( go figure). 3rd child smoked and he is healthy and has no breathing problems except for seasonal allergies. Baby #4 smoked the whole time and she is a healthy baby only she has acid reflux. So the one time I quite my child has asthma i dont know how that happened but, it is definetly suppose to be heathier for the baby. and my smallest child at birth was 6 pounds even and that was with my second child all the others i smoked with were bigger. hope i helped somewhat.

unfortunately and guiltily I have to say yes. I was going through a very difficult time during my pregnancy and just could not give up. Im not making excuses for myself and I know I should have been stronger and just stopped. My baby was born a healthy 7lbs 9 oz. With no health problems. I gave up smoking the day before she was born and haven't had another one since. She is 2 now.

I don't smoke (have been around enough smokers for me not to have to!!) but I don't understand why anyone would continue smoking heavily through a pregnancy, knowing the problems it can cause baby. I do admire heavy smokers who cut down during their pregnancy as that is just as hard as giving up.

I don't condone it but I did smoke......before I was pregnant I was smoking up to 1/2 pack a day......but when I found out.....it was hard to quit and my doctor had told me not to stress myself out trying to quit. The baby is probably used to the nicotine levels in my blood......so if you just cut if off cold turkey....it might shock the baby........so she said she could tolerate me to have 1 or 2 a day......I tried that but I could only get it to like 4 or 5 a day.......
and I also called a mother's help-line to ask if I could use the nicotine patch and they said it was ok........so I used that too...and it helped.....
My daughter (thank god) came out fine and she's almost 2 years old.......so......so far so good.....but I also do know of a friend who also smoked and both her boys came out with asthma......
but the pediatrician picked up on it right away and put them on the neubilizer and for the first year they used it quite a bit but seeing as they caught it early they don't have to use any puffers or anything now......and they are 3 and 6 years old.
It's up to you if you want to smoke but you will get alot of slack for it from people.......probably even strangers giving you dirty looks and if you can quit I would say to quit.........you just never know what might happen......you basically have a 50/50 chance and won't know till the baby is born.

I smoked during both of my pregnancies. I did cut back a little though. Both of my babies were completely healthy and of good weights, both were nearly 8 pounds. I did stop smoking in my home though after the babies came. I only smoke outside now.

i know several women that smoked through their entire pregnancies, no ill effects on the children. Smoking is bad for you, that should be a good enough reason to stop! but everything is BAD for you these days. Too much salt, fat, sugar not enough exercise etc etc should i go on!!! Personal Choice the one thing nobody can take away from you

I didnt smoke with my 1st and 3rd babies but im extremely ashamed to say i smoked 20-30 a day with my 2nd.
She appears to be well and hasnt suffered no long term affects (she is now 21 months old) but had i had my time again i def wouldnt have done it and there are NO excuses at all.
I guess the question is...How much do you want to gamble with another persons life? Given the choice again i wouldnt have smoked!
Good luck x

I'm sure there are instances where babies have been fine, and I'm an ex- smoker so I understand some people struggle, but there is no excuse when bringing another human being into the world. Why should they suffer from your bad habit? Bringing a child into the world is a magical thing and most parents prepare and make sure they do everything properly to make sure their baby is a healthy happy one. Why anyone would want to jeopardise that is beyond me

I gave up 3 weeks after finding out that I was pregnant. I had the choice to damage my health but my baby didn't, I didn't want to inflict that on him. He's now 7 months old and I am proud to say that I still do not smoke, I have too much to live for now.
