I've been using Celebrex for arthritis for two and a half years. I know when I run out of the prescription that the pain was not imaginary ... so it works. I heard something recently on the news that while Vioxx was taken off the market because people had heart attacks, that Celebrex doesn't seem to have the same affect.

YES!! It is totally bad for you. I am a paralegal for a class action attorney and we have HUGE lawsuits against the manufacturers of such drugs as Bextra, Vioxx and CELEBREX. If you've heard anything about Vioxx, Celebrex can have the same effects. It can cause you to have a heart attack. True, not every drug has the same effect on everyone, but it would be a chance I personally wouldn't be willing to take. It hasn't been proven yet that it has short term effects, I think right now they are saying you have to have been taking it at least a year to be considered for one of our cases. I saw the posting of another lady who said she's been taking it for 2 1/2 years, I would seriously consider switching to something else. I've seen the records of what it could do and it isn't pretty.

I was given Celebrex for fibromyalgia - personally I couldnt stomach it, it made me feel really sick all the time so I stopped taking it after a couple of days - Celebrex has been given bad press because of its side effects and that it can cause long term problems like stomach ulcers etc but if your Dr thinks you need it - give it a go it might just do the trick for you!

What should I avoid while taking Celebrex?
Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding.
Avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDs while you are taking Celebrex.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any cold, allergy, or pain medication. Many medicines available over the counter contain aspirin or other medicines similar to celecoxib. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen.

I took it for arthritis but it didn't help me at all. But it helped my brother-in-law. Maybe if you feel uncomfortable taking it get a second opinion besides ours.
