You both get along pretty well, but there's something about him - his background, some things he do or believe in - that you know for sure will stand in the way of you marrying him. And you don't really want to, to start off.

I don't know what is the key concern that makes you so sure that you won't marry the guy. If you have already know that both of you can't be together in the end, I suggest it is better not to start a relationship. Since you already know that both of you can't be together, I don't see the point why you should bear the pain when both of you decided breaking up is the best solution. The worst thing is that after breaking off, you still can't forget him and start a new relationship with other guys

Any relationship that you aren't thinking in the back of your head,"I could see myself marrying this person." is probably a relationship you should just leave as friend's.
These types of relationships will only lead to hurt feelings.

I say do what you want. Your young and need to enjoy the dating scene. You never know how your feelings will be after a while of dating. As long as he knows that you have no wedding plans in the near future then everything should be ok.

No, it's not silly. Not all relationships will result in marriage. As long as you express this to your bf then I'd say go ahead w/ the relationship
