I doubt a law exists specific to that issue, however even an adult could fall from the top bunk.
With a child I'd probably close it in entirely, and my sons were sleeping in Bunks from ages 3 and 7,,, the 3 year old on the bottom bunk. Until I railed it in however, the 7 year old did fall out once.
I suspect if any litigation occured it would be regarding neglect or some such, after an injury, but that certainly would have to be reported, investigated, etc. I assume law enforcement has far greater issues to deal with,,, NO offense meant at all.

I don't think there is a law per se but I wouldn't let a kid who cannot sleep on a regular bed sleep in a bunk. Most bunks have guard rails, so when you go looking, place your kid on the top bunk and see if the rails adequately protect him from falling. That should give you an idea if they will be safe.

No don't think so! i don't think you should put a child under the age of 4 on the top because they can or will fall off the ladder trying 2 climb down or maybe try 2 jump off the side rails! i have a 5 yr old and he sleeps on top and jumps off the top sometimes and my 2yr old sleeps on the bottom. my 2yr old can climb up there but he cant come down

I dont think its a law but i would be carefull. We just recently built our 4 yr old daughter a toddler size loft bed. She loves it and she never plays on it or hangs on it. she does great with it and bedtime is easier too. But i also dont think if my son wanted one at 4 i would do it because he is much more of a boys boy if you get my drift jumping running and climbing are his pass time so he wouldnt do good in one. it all deppends on the child and how safe you feel it would be.

Just the law of common sense. My five year old sleeps on top and my 3 year old on bottom. The three year old tries to sleep on top, but I always worry about him falling. He can't get down once he climbs up.

Yes it would be equal to the childs age divided into the law of gravity.
