This is in celebration of their King's ascencion to the throne 65 years ago. This was cekebrated in June this year and the people had just continued to wear the yellow shirt as the nation's celebration will extend pass His birthday in December.
Maybe also the fact that there is so much political turmoil, they could be showing their neutrality and hoping their King will step in to resolve the problem, as He had been doing all the time.

Their beloved King's birthday colour. Recently he celebrated his 60th year on the throne. As a show of their love and respect, the Thais wore the yellow tops (with the emblem created for the mentioned occasion) - especially on Mondays. You guess it, his day of birth.

for all you experts on Thailand it's been 60 years not 65 years. His birthday is Dec 5 and he will be 79. Next year will also be a special event for the Kings 80th birthday.
