Dealing with depression is not easy but you've started on the right step by taking effort to seek help.
You can seek counsel at your local church. Churches have great connections and most offer counseling. Being a member has benefits by connecting you to the help you need. A counselor with the same faith beliefs is a tremendous benefit.
1) Surround yourself with positive people, people with great attitudes, the type of person you wish to be
2) stay away from negative people and alcohol.
3) Eating right will help,
4) make sure you aren't allergic to Shell Fish before taking St. John's Wart, for some reason it too can cause same reaction.
5) Stabilize your metabolism, imbalance can cause depression, "Relacore" is an excellent vitamin. (I use it and it works)
6) Excercise, yes it helps
7) Upbeat and positive music, any style, choose wise listening with encouraging and positive words.

I know how hard and awful depression can be,I have struggled with it many times.True depression not just the blues which is common amongst all people. You are willing to go get help this is good the first step.If you live in Cook county The Kenneth Young center in Elk Grove is excellent. You will have to do a bit of research to see whats around you. They usually have a sliding scale which makes it easy for people without a lot of money.First you would probably see a physciatrist because they are the only ones who can dispense medicine like an antideppresant. This can be of temporary help just to get you over the hump if your against taking them.I took them for 8 months as I went to therapy consistently and I learned coping skills and now Im off the Meds.being consistent is the key,go to counseling sometimes you need to go through a few counselors before you find the right one for you.Having hobbies is a good thing I was brought up to believe it was not but it is ,it helps to keep your mind occupied. Also push yourself everyday to take a shower and groom yourself,I know sometimes this is the hardest thing to do but you will feel better after you do it.Just take one day at a time. For today if you can take a shower,go for a walk, and just do a little something else can be a big accomplishment for someone in a very bad deppresion.I know been there.Eventually as days go by you WILL get better. You must do these things.Figure out your own plan of action and just push you gotta push!!Life is hard ,there are alot of heartaches in life but you have to see the big picture. There is a reason for everything that happens you may not see that right now,and there is a reason for your life, take care of it man.Good Luck You will be okay.Last thing if you dont want western meds go to health food store get St. Johns wart and kava kava the kava kava is if you have anxiety also.Eat well and get the proper rest its about balance. A balanced life ,good friends to talk to is a plus someone who is understanding and not judgemental.

I have been recently diagnosed with depression also and i find it really helpfull to draw and write stories- not as much poetry but i put all my emotion into the stories i write and because i have trouble vocalising my feelings and thought i put them into my stories and pretend that is what the characters are feeling- i then give them to my psychaitrist to read so she knows what i am feeling. It really helps and you can burn them afterwards if you want so noone can read them!!
Try asking your doctor and/or psychaitrist (or counsellor) about the weight issue and help get a plan for regular exersise and eating to kick you back on track- the best way for you to handle depression is to keep busy. Dont let yourself sit around all day and do nothing- get up and go for a walk, write a story, dance around to music do anything to get you going!! And it releases some built up anxiety/energy in your body as well which helps make you feel better!!
Anouther hint- stay away from food which you know you will binge on. Don't even buy them next time you go shopping, stock your cuboard full of healthy things!! and put posted notes everywhere reminding you to eat responsibly and heathy and to get out and do something!!
Good luck with everything!! I am here to talk if you need it!!

The the very first thing I do, is appear to peer if there's a intent. Something different then a chemical imbalance. Usually it's whatever that the man or woman both is, or is not doing, and this realistic difference could make a gigantic change. Sometimes it is only a subject of targeting whatever you do good. Sometimes it is quite simply an issue of serving to others and seeing how joyful that makes them. The backside line although amigo, is what you fill your center and brain with. If you feed it with junk, then you're going to discover that despair looms on account that you're now not treating your self healthful. Just like whilst one eats junk meals always, and avoids healthful meals offerings. The backside line although, how is your stroll with God? Are you doing all to carry Him glory? Are you permitting Him to paintings in and via you? Or are you blockading him by way of your offerings? if I did not realize you in my opinion, I would not ask those questions, however I realize you, and I realize in which your issues start. Once you eliminate the junk, and cognizance at the healthful, matters will flip round. If there's a Celebrate Recovery application in a Church close you, I strongly advise you begin attending. You will discover that it'll be a enormous support.

Hi, In order to control a deep depression about all that you can do is to find a good Psychiatrist who can give you anti-depressants to help you to get rid of some of that depression or go talk to a therapist. I am Bipolar and we have our ups and downs but the best anti-depressant I have ever been on is Lexapro. It doesn't mean that it would be good for you just giving you a little information.
If you can't afford a Psychiatrist you can look in your local phone book to see if there is a Community Mental Health center in your area and call them for an appointment. They will have you pay on a sliding scale if you have no insurance and they will give you prescriptions for free medications also. You just have to take them wherever they tell you to to be filled. They also have a therapist that will work with you one on one. If you can't find that look and see if you can find your local easter seals office because they do the same thing the same way. Good Luck and I hope that I helped you out.

Your doctor is a good place to start. He can place you on some form of anti depressant and it's amazing after the initial 2 to 3 weeks, how improved your life becomes. He can also refer you to a good counselor who can help you sort through the problems so they cease to exist or become manageable. The one thing you can't do successfully is get over it on your own without help. You made a great choice to ask and it's awesome that you recognize the depression exists in your life. Best wishes to you.
