First of all, you didn't specify which nation's military.

There's also a difference between enlisted and commissioned officers. The latter group comes with at minimum an undergraduate degree and management experience of several years. There are companies out there that specifically recruit officers for mid-level management positions, especially those with technical expertise.

Those enlisted that do enter the job market have either the option of getting a start-up together with others, or putting their military experience to work for someone else. Those with rare technical skills (such as EOD) can easily clock over $100,000 a year if they end up taking a contract to deploy overseas and work as a government contractor. Those without technical skills (such as Infantry) are usually restricted to Law Enforcement or other positions that do not require a wealth of prior experience (such as the Post Office).

The highest paying at the moment, if memory and various discussions with other people serve me correct, are in EOD (explosives handling/demolitions work) and communications (satellite communications, network administrator). These are exceeded only by those with certain qualifications that can only come from training within units that do not exist, who can easily clock over double any of the incomes mentioned above doing certain kinds of work.
