If it were me, I'd start out taking sample cakes to every coffee shop, restaurant (full service or mom & pop), and caterer. Even trade shows in your area, or bridal shows. Let them taste your cake, see the final prodcut, carve them a slice, adn hand them a brochure w/ flavors, photos, and prices. You may have retail prices in your brochure, but verbally offer a 50% (or whatever) discount for restaurants and caterers who will sell your cake by the slice. It will take a lot of legwork to get started, and word of mouth and a good product is crucial.

Make a few decorated cakes and take pictures of them, then get leaflets made up. Ask friends and family to give them out at their place of work. Id love to do that. Ive made a few really good cakes, but its taken me hours and i end up shedding alot of tears over them if things go a little wrong. Good luck.

I would suggest making some and giving them away free, say at a fete, or car boot sale or something. Well letting people have free samples, that way you may build up some customers. I dont think its an easy business to be honest.

You have to get out there and hustle.
