I don't understand this. You can ask a question about something and provide factual proof of it, and people immediately hop to defense. I thought we were allowed to ask questions here? If presented facts are given as well, it it not obvious the asker is looking for clarification and others opinions? You can't ofetn get that here because when you discover "dirty little secrets" about certain religions, the followers jump into denial and play victim or defense. How can anyone get knowledge this way?

Some are looking for knowledge. Some are looking for like-minded people. Some are looking to argue or start fights.

That's about it. And it's sad, but it's the way it is.

Religion especially is a very touchy subj.and often things that a person presents as facts as they understand it can be in error. sadly some people instead of writing an answering post politely correcting the error will jump down the other persons throat instead ...
the fact is some people are just very touchy some are looking for a fight and still others...just don't read the question through and think before reply....its unfortunate I know but...that's the way things go, don't give up asking try to ignore the bad there are many here who will reply kindly.

Religion and politics are two very touchy subjects for people. For many, when you question their beliefs in these areas - even with provable facts - they feel threatened and refuse to listen. This is likely due to fear... if they have been living under false assumptions, then they will need to reevaluate their lives in general, and that is a frightening prospect for most. The sad thing is that this kind of denial prevents a person from growing. If your belief is strong, and not based simply on what you've been told by others (in other words, not based on BLIND belief), questions should be welcomed, if only because it provides an opportunity to strengthen that belief or to clarify things we don't understand. There are many "dirty little secrets" in most religions, by the way. It is MAN who created religion, not God, and man is by nature weak, controlling and political.

Often when you hear "dirty little secrets" about a religion, or about another person, it isn't fact at all, but just someone's bigotry and ignorance spilling out where it can be seen.

Facts don't always mesh with opinion, which happens to be the stronger of the two. And,people don't want to see something that they firmly believe in tarnished in any way. It's like telling a parent that their child is ugly.Maybe they know that, deep down, but they don't want to have to admit to it because they love the child and don't see that as something that really matters.Same thing with religion.Just don't worry about it.If you fret about something like that, you will always be fretting.

What's so big about facts? Lots of things have believed to be fact - but then found later that these facts have not been true facts.

Because the facts make them defensive and they want to stay in their delusional world. Putting facts before them makes them really pissed and then they tend to defend their beliefs and not accept fact. they counter act the facts with mindless scripture.

i would think it would be kind of hard to accept facts when you can accept something as important as a supreme being with just faith. im not saying that many believers do have a hard time, but some do.
