Love is patient, love is kind, love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong doing. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth.
Now if I can remember where that is in the bible.
(I know you don't want scripture, but I am getting even for putting that song in my head)

Commitment through good AND bad. And the bad, I think, is what exposes the difference between real love and false love.
