Tragically, it is the Ganges River, which is sacred to Hindus. Thousands of people bathe themselves in the filthy water every day.

I read some where that it is the River Yangtze. The pollution levels are so high that people skins are turning yellow!

Whilst the Ganges maybe full of human excrement, it is the chemicals that are allowed to leach into rivers such as the Yangtze that do the harm as they cannot be neutralised like human excrement can.

it depends on what you consider to be the worst pollutants. I would guesss the ganges for nitrogen and waste, and one of the rivers in china (yangtze?) for metals and ions.

It used to be the Thames, but it's totally cleaned up now and even the trout and Salmon have returned.
