We will never know if no one is there to listen

If a tree falls and noone's around then we don't know. If it landed on someone QUICK!! Ask them before they lose conciousness!

Seriously though, a tree falling would cause vibrations, which is what the basis of sound is - a series of vibrations. So yes it would make a sound. As for would it make a noise: if noone heard it then no. Noise isn't really too technical, and is judged by people in its earshot. If noone hears it then it's not noise.

It would still make a sound though, I defy any tree to fall without causing a disruption to the air around it.

I don't think the actual tree makes a noise, I think it is the uprooting of the roots and the falling sound (hitting other things around it) and the actual crash on the ground which make the sound.

It makes a sound, a sound only recognisable by the human ears as a tree falling :)

A noise isn't recognisable, it's like wind passing a small gap, or a corrupt CD, something you wouldn't regcognise.

I study accoustics, I know the difference :)

The Oxford English Dictionary contains references to "noise" as unwanted sound, dating back to 1225, hence you have to decide if you want to hear it or not.
LOL. LOL.
I thought noise created sound.

It's your question, so it's your call.

Have a nice evening/morning.
