Buy him a nice card, and a gift. If you are not sure what he would like, try gift tokens. For example, if he enjoys reading, he will have more time to read a good book, so a book token would be ideal, as he can get the gift of his choice. Another idea is to treat him to a nice evening out. He will get a lot of attention from his work colleges at the party, so I would suggest the evening out is in a few weeks time. If you have a family, try and get him involved more, invite him round more often. You may do this already, but it is only a suggestion. I wish him well in his retirement.

You should give a card and a gift. Retirement is a big change in his life, and his family should be there to support him and honor him. You could get him a gold club membership or something like that, an activity to keep him busy now that he's retired.

Hey if its your Dad, why not buy him a card and a gift. After all he may be feeling a little lost and depressed after finishing work after so many years. So it wouldnt do any harm to let him know you are thinking of him.

Buy him a card AND a gift. Don't be cheap. You also don't need a reason such as retirement to get your dad a present.

Get him the kind of gift that he can enjoy during his retirement. But, yes. You should get him a gift!

It is very appropriate for you to get either a gift or card. It is a celebration of his devoting years of his life to support you. He has worked and it would be wonderful, speaking as a mother myself, to hear a child of mine praise my efforts and really appreciate me. You would warm his heart if you spoke to him of how much he has done for you and how much he has inspired you to be a hard worker....very appropriate indeed.

I think both would be nice if you can afford it. But I'm sure he'd be just as happy getting just a card as well. After all he's worked all those years I'm sure to help make sure you got things you needed and wanted and it would just be your way of telling him how much he's appreciated by you as well as how proud you are of him.
