The pentium 3 and 4 refers to the processor chip on the mother board. The pentium 3 was replaced by the pentium 4. The difference is that a pentuim 4 will operate faster than a pentium 3. The speed varies but all P4s are faster than P3s
It has nothing to do with the hard drive.

If I understand you correctly, Speed of Processor. P4 = Pentium 4
Pentium 3s were about processor speeds of about 500 to 1000 (or 1 gig) Above 1000 or 1 gig were the Pentium 4s
