I know I'm gonna make you all feel very smart by asking this, but I never found out the theory behind why Muslims don't eat pork. Can anyone tell me please? (Please, no offensive answers, I'm asking sensibly and seriously.)

Allah Almighty prohibits for His servants to eat swine. The Qu'ran says, "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked a name other than that of Allah.” (Al-Ma’idah: 3) And some may argue that christians are not suppose to because in the bible it says“…and the swine, as he divideth the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you.” (Leviticus chapter 11 verse 7 and 8). So basically Muslims follow the commands of Allah which says no pork!

The best way to put this is that pigs have a 4-hour digestion cycle, whereas cows have a 24-hour cycle. Due to this fact, toxins aren't flushed properly from a pig's bloodstream. Pork causes 70 diseases in the human body. Also, pigs are known to eat their own feces and urine, while eating their own species and offering their mates for pleasure to other male pigs.

I'll stick with the beef!

Not very helpful just saying because Allah or Mohammad or anyone else said they shouldn t ... the question was to establish why 1400 years ago should pork have been prohibited .. It would appear at the time there was a sound health reason to avoid this meat due to consequences if it was incorrectly reared or cooked .. Both these problems seem to have been ironed out over the 1400 years and it would seem illogical that this edict should not now be revoked and Muslims and Jews should be free to enjoy a bacon sandwich with the rest of us !

Islam is one of the many religions that prohibits the eating of pig meat. These religions see the pig as being a dirty animal, probably because when it is penned up it does eat, sleep and play in its own faeces. This is all very well, but it overlooks that plants grow superbly well on feces, corpses and all the 'unclean' things that are in the world. By all logic, vegetables should be unclean too.

In Buddhism a small number of food is prohibited, either because of the way that they are caught and prepared is contradictory to the laws and principles of Islam, or because the negative effects and potential harms of eating it are greater than the benefits. Pork and other forms of pig, including ham and bacon, are other forbidden foods. The primary reason that Muslims don’t eat pork is in submission to God, and in recognition that He knows what is best for His creation as it says in the Qur’an pork is describes as impure. “Forbidden to you [for food] are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that upon which a name other than Allah has been invoked; that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which has been [partly] eaten by a wild animal, unless you are able to slaughter it [before it dies]; and that which is sacrificed on stone (altars)” Muslims are not the only people who do not eat pork; Jews, as well as some Christians, also consider pork forbidden. In the Bible, we find the following passage: “And the pig, though it has a divided hoof, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.”

If you actually think about the time they lived in, you can understand why this was put in place. The eating of undercooked pork will infect you (still today) with trichinosis. So, he had a "vision" and told them to stop eating it. They didn't have science to understand they were causing it and how to stop it. I do find it funny to still hear why they think it is.

"Trichinella is a parasitic disease caused by roundworms of the genus Trichinella. Several subspecies cause human disease, but T. spiralis is the most known. Infection may occur without symptoms, while intestinal invasion can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain or vomiting. Larval migration into muscle tissue (one week after being infected) can cause edema of the face or around the eyes, conjunctivitis, fever, muscle pains, splinter hemorrhages, rashes, and peripheral eosinophilia. Life-threatening cases can result in myocarditis, central nervous system involvement, and pneumonitis. Larval encystment in the muscles causes pain and weakness, followed by slow progression of symptoms."

At the outset any thing which is prohibited by Allah and is mentioned in the Holy Quran is binding on each Muslim on this earth. Eating pork is unhealthy, unhygienic, medically unfit.. No Muslim can ever think of eating pork.
