If I could answer that, I'd be a billionaire!

If it's occasional backache, either around the shoulders or in the small of your back, lie on your back on the floor with a rolled-up towel under your spine where it hurts. For the first minute, it's uncomfortable, but it get's better as the muscles start to relax. Don't do this for more than 10 minutes a day or you'll cause more problems.

This depends on how bad the backache is.
Sit down and cry bad-rest. Lie on your back on a surface that isn't overly soft but not hard. Probably see a doctor.

ouch this hurts bad-very gentle exercise can ease the muscle strain, you could try some beginners yoga. I also like using Myoflex 20. I stress gentle exercise done slowly and with focus-the stuff you'd imagine your grandma doing.

Prevention is your best bet. The most pressure is put on your back by sitting. Something we do a lot. Get up every half hour stretch and walk if you can. You can't beat regular exercise to help take care of your back. And-keeping your abs toned helps support your back, and looks good too.

Depends on the cause.
If it is a as a result of a trapped nerve in the spine then although the nerve is only trapped for a very short time, it is bruised. The nerve must then heal as any other wound. It could be a long time depending on just how damaged it is.
If it is only a pulled muscle then carry on as normal but don't over do any stretching, bending or lifting. Take some form of pain killer and this will help you to relax and assist the healing.
When the pain has gone do exercises to strengthen you back muscles. See an NHS physio which is free and they will explain the best exercises.
I had both types and it isn't any fun so best of luck and hope you soon get over it

there are many factors that would contribute to a backache.. could be from lifting things, from sitting in an uncomortable chair.. why dont you get a massage or rest flat in bed and if it wont work then turn to sides..

I do not generally suffer with back ache- but last week after doing nothing I was in terrible pain with spasms in my back- it took me 10 mins to get out of a chair- I stood all night!!-
eventually I got to the gps- I took 2 ibuprofen then two hours later two paracetamol- It was like a miracle- I carried on with this all day--

It does depend on what type and gravity is very good.

In the past I have had two burst discs with associated sciatic pain. Not much fun. What I found to be good is yoga. It has shifted my back problem and increased my general level of health and fitness.

Icy Hot cream and patches work well, though they stink of menthol. An electric heating pad may help as well. Of course if this is a cronic condition these will only be temporary fixes.

Spend a fortune seeing physio's, chiropractors or a private orthopaedic surgeoon, which is what my husband is having to do at the moment 'cos the NHS couldn't give a s***

lay on a hard surface (i.e. lay on the floor, place a piece of plywood under your sheets on your bed)

apply a warming pack (i.e. heating bottle, those new therma heating pads sold over the counter at drug stores)

soak in a warm tub with water as hot as you can stand

take a couple of tylenol

call a doctor if condition gets worse.

usually backache is due to the fact that you don't work out your back muscles and when you work them a bit you get backcke since your back muscles aren't in shape!

The solution is to go to the gym and do excerises that strengthen your back muscles!
