If it is really bad he may need to go the Dr's as it could be scalp Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a flakey skin condition in which the skin cells reach the surface before they mature and flake away in great numbers every day. It is very common to get it on the scalp but it needs to be examined and diagnosed. A Dr can then prescribe special shampoos and ointments to help. I suggest a GP visit if it's really bad, Psoriasis does not generally cause itching so you would just get the excess flaking as a symptom.

Dandruff is caused by dry scalp.
Head and shoulders is apparently not good for your scalp!! The best thing is to use a good shampoo and conditioner. None of the cheapies from the supermarket.
Also buy shampoo and conditioner that is for dry hair. The scalp needs the extra moisturiser.
A herbal remedy i have in a book says to infuse 2 tablespoons of dried rosemary and sage in 2 cups of hot water. leave for 24 hours. strain and use daily as a hair rinse.

If your friend is on certain medications that can also cause Dandruff so they need to find out so they can rule that possibility out. If your friend is unable to use over the counter remedies they may have to go too a physician for something stronger. They might have a skin condition that OTC's can't handle.

Try using a shampoo which contains very little soap and doesn't cause much lather.
Shampoo which has a high soap content tends to dry the scalp and exacerbate symptoms of dandruff.

Vosene, that smells lovely!
You can get lots of different kinds of Head & Shoulders now, with different smells.
He needs to wash his hair daily, and make sure he really rubs his scalp when washing.

i once read that one reason for having dandruff is lifestyle, the stress that he gets everyday and the foods that he eats...i suggest that he should minimize the use of shampoos that are drying the scalp...It's best to use shampoo that has a special chemical in it..if i'm correct, it's zinc or something like that...

try apple cider vinegar..soak your hair and scalp in it for about half an hour to an hour and wash out, do it every day for a week, and i promise it will work... i have done it myself... i had a case of what the doctor could only describe as horrible cradle cap, and no antibiotics worked... but apple cider vinegar saved my life...
