I am bored of going to the same old places all the time with an old mate of mine. I haven't worked long in the west end so haven't found any hidden gems. The place needs to serve a good pint, serve decent food and isn't packed to the rafters with people shouting at each other, full of smoke. A tall order, I guess!

Try Henry's in Covent Garden.. my fav place when I'm visiting the city.. good food, nice pint although it is more of a cocktail/wine bar.. and No smoking in the eating area

Could try the Windmill in Mill Street, just off Regent Street. It's a Youngs pub so good beer and the food was good too last time I ate there. It can get lively immediately after work but there's no intrusive music.
Also for a smoke free and quiet good-pint-type drink try the upstairs room at The Harp in Covent Garden (Chandos Place). The main pub is busy but the upstairs room is usually empty. They don't do food except for some really good sausages.

Have you tried Prince of Wales on Marylebone High street? It's excellent, the decor is very modern and atmospheric, the music researched, they even have good food! Which is rare in the uk pubs.And it isn't a chain, Just try not to go on fridays, it can get quite busy. Have a go, it's worth the try!
