I suffer really badly from cold sores around my mouth, does anyone have any remedies that work for them? I have tried all the medical "cures" and I don't rate them at all... or do you know what kind of things aggravate/inflame cold sores?

I used to have cold sores at least 6 times a year. I used everything imaginable to try to get rid of them and prevent them from coming back. The best way to fight them is to combine several different things including ordinary stuff that you probably have around the house. This is the best guide online that I have found:

Good luck! I know that cold sores can be positively horrendous to deal with at times! That link should definitely help, though!

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and once you get that, you'll always suffer from cold sores. You need to eat properly, get the vitamins in, if necessary take supplements, to keep these under control. Cold sores are usually an indication that you are a bit under the weather, mine usually come before a real cold, so they are a warning for me to get a couple of early nights and take extra vitamin C. When I feel one coming I use Zovirax or Blisteze on my lips.

L-Lysine tablets and Zinc tablets taken together.
Tea Tree Oil and Betadine liquid are both very good for drying up cold sores, also for pimples. Vegemite is another remedy from a nurse in New Guinea, but I have not tried it yet.The most effective cure has been from a pharmacist, and is 100 mg Vitamin B2 ( Riboflavin) which is specifically for mucous membranes. Take one tablet three times a day for two weeks, then take one tablet twice a day for four months. It is supposed to keep you free from Cold Sores indefinitely !!

I have had cold sores reoccuring for years. I discovered that when they break out I have been under alot of stress. I have tried the creams from prescriptions and they seem to work the best so far. Also, I use antibiotic cream on them at night and it seems to lighten them quite a bit. They are embarrassing and look more horrible to us than to others, we all have them from time to time. If you are continually having them, they may not just be cold sores, I hope you have checked with your doctor.

Herpilyn cream is recommended by Dr Whitaker's Guide to Natural Healing
Also, take lysine 500 mg 4x daily (1 hr b4 or 2 hr aftr meals)
Take a high potency multiple vitamin-mineral pill daily
Take an antioxidant combo pill daily
Echinacea or Astragalus will help build up your immune system
Olive leaf extract or Lomatium dissectum are reputed to have anti-viral properties. The main key is to strengthen your immune function. (See Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine (Murray) for details and advice from experts.

Pick up some Lysine tablets at your local health food shop. It won't stop the outbreak but will speed it along so that you will suffer for less time. Zovirax is good too but you need to apply it the minute you feel the tingle which isn't always practical if you don't carry it with you all the time. Again, all it will do is lessen the extent of the outbreak.

I suffer as well, you know what I do, as soon as I feel the tingle of one coming I apply Sudocream - an antiseptic cream used for babies with nappy rash!! If I do this the cold sore never appears!!
Sudocream is great for spots as well!!!
