Depends on the Virus, but I had a look on the net and yeah, it does look like certain virus' can harm your BIOS.

Yes there are virii that can attack the bios to affect the function of your pc. Most just mess with the registry tho. There used to be one that would make the head bounce off your hard drive & take chunks out of it. Really, with enough drive, people can make these machines do anything pretty much.

Yes, there are viruses that can infect your BIOS, but they are rare and it's not easy to get infected with them. Chances are that if all hope is lost, you can reformat and re-install the OS and all will be cleaned. If your BIOS is infected, you'll want to contact the manufacturer to see if they can ship you a restore disk or give some advice on what to do.

To my knowledge and past experiences with viruses the limits to how far a virus can go are limitless. Minor ones could just send popups, but others can completly destroy your pc (crash). I have seen pcs that have crashed and there was no bringing them back. Try running ad awares, spy bot remover and many various virus scanner programs if you have one.

It can cause your processor to stop working and thereby causing exess heat on the board and your power pack stop working
