You know, to retard claw growth, and the real purpose of these is to halt your kitty's fingernails from decorating the furniture, you might want to use claw tipcovers. These are the best alternative for declawing, but a few people who use them swear that they don't have to trim their claws as much as they had to before.

Hi Bonni...cats claws can be easily trimmed at home. You can use human nail clippers or purchase nail clippers at any local pet store which is very affordable. Here's a video created by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine that demonstrates step-by-step how to trim your cat's claw safely and easily: http://www.felinevideos.vet.cornell.edu/trimming_claws/

Cats claws grow point first. Trimming them only brings a sharper point out again. Best to leave it be. But if you must, use toenail clippers, the bigger ones for people, and don't cut into the pink part. That bleeds a long time and it hurts.

You can clip your cats claws yourself. Use a nail clipper. Be very careful not to clip the quick (the pink part), that is living tissue and will injure your baby. Good luck!
