My 10 yrs old cat has urinated on the bed , 3 times in the last week! The only thing to change is our other cat died about 3 months ago , they were very close . I know about putting citrus in the area where they wee but it is a bit hard to do this on the bed. We have now got a litter tray which she is using but if we even leave the bedroom door open for a min she is up there doing it again . She has been spade and has not got a bladder infection .Any ideas would be grate .

Your poor baby is lonely and grieving. She misses her companion. My 12 year old hissed and fretted when I introduced my new kitten into my house, but now they play, sleep together, and groom each other. A buddy could help. Give her lots of love and try not to be harsh with her. She is trying to tell you something.

I have several cats (23) and I have to bring them all (except for 5 that always stay outside because they can't stand to be around other cats ) in at night because the coyotes will eat them .I Live in the country . But I have learned that they will act up and potty in places other than the cat boxes if the litter in the box is older than a couple of days and if the box has feces and urine in it . So you might try keeping the box changed daily and see if that works and make sure you keep the litter changed too cause that is when they love it the most, It did for mine. (twice daily for me with 3 litter boxes )How would you like to use the bathroom and see poop still in the toilet ? If that doesn't work then DO use a water spray bottle each time she does it , That should make her stop since she will hate getting squirted . IF all else fails then keep door shut for sure unless you are in the room with her. If she is out of room when you see it , get her and show her what she did and squirt her point blank , I'll bet she will not do it again.

If you're sure your cat doesn't have an infection of some sort ?

There are products you can get on the market, or through the vet that you can apply to rugs, furniture, etc., that will break down the enzymes in a cat's urine that you will need to use to really eliminate the smell. Even if we can't smell the urine, they still can and will continue to go in that spot.

Getting the smell out of the mattress will be trickier if it got down inside. I would suggest getting this product, (can't think of any brands at the moment, but they're out there) go at that spot, let it air for a day or two to dry (close your door) and then flip the mattress over so the spot isn't as easy to get at and hopefully your cat will stick with the litter box.

You need to be SURE that she doesn't have a Bladder infection. Take her to the Vet! Peeing on the bed; it's a place where she knows you will be at some point and you will notice the pee on your bed. She's telling you something. This is her way of telling you that she is in pain realy bad or depressed about her lost friend that just died or both (or something else) You need to watch for these types of things. You said she lost a close one 3 months ago. She's DEPRESSED and doesn't know what to do. She wants her close one back with her but she can't. That's where YOU need to come in and show her lots and lots of love and cuddles. Please please find out for sure if she has a bladder infection or not! Take her to the Vet. Is there little blood spots in with the pee on your bed? (Bladder infection) but even if NO blood in with the pee, she's still telling you that something is bothering her and you need to TAKE HER TO THE VET and have the Vet help you find out what's wrong!

My cat did this exact same thing. She DID have a bladder infection. She was also mad at me for moving her blanket, (her special place she liked to sleep) As soon as it came out of the dryer, she jumped up on our dresser on her warm blanky and started bathing herself and purring (she's spoiled). It's true, Cats will let you know what they need, you just got to watch and listen to them. Cats DO NOT like sudden changes allthough they adapt as LONG AS they still get LOTS and LOTS of love. Extra special love and cuddles when they lose their close companion!
Sorry so long. I just care a great deal for cats. I know all about them and I have been doing Animal Rescue tech for over 13 years (cats from born to full adults)
BIG TIME ANIMAL LOVER!
(especially cats, the little furry critters!)

Take her to the Vet! It's your best option!

It sounds like she is trying to be the Queen Bee in the house , if you pardon the poor example (it's 5 am!). Do you have any other cats that sleep up there? Or com near it? Or you for that matter? Jealousy type thing?

If it is, pet her like crazy but when she starts to pee, squirt her with a water bottle with cool water in it. She'll get the message soon enough.

Urinating in unusual places is a sign of urinary tract infection. Take her to the vet. I wish you luck. Try sprinkling your mattress with baking soda. Leave it there for a while and then vacuum. That should take care of the smell.

Jean Natee perfume stinks to cats and they won't go there. It is a cheap perfume available at any walgreens. Your cat is mad at you about something.
