Anywhere to a warm destination is more expensive than other times of the year. Plus it is preferred time of the yea to go to the Caribbean. I went to Antigua 3 years ago and it was gorgeous! We stayed at the Occidental Grand Pineapple Beach. I particularly wanted to check this one out because it was a mid range priced property for clients with a specific budget. I also went over to the Sandals Antigua which is couples only.
The Occidental resort was ok, but there were a few things I wasn't happy with. The first one was how the dining was arranged. They had 3 places of dining.
1. Topaz - Main Dining - buffet style - a la carte
2. Pineapple Grill - Caribbean style
3. Another one that may or may not still is there.
Either way the reason I didn’t like the dining is there wasn’t that much variety or also you could make your reservations for the whole week you were there. That doesn't work though because you can end up not getting any reservations for the Specialty restaurants and have to eat in Main dining the whole time, depending on the day of your arrival. The rooms were clean, but pretty basic. All in all it wasn't a horrible stay, but I wouldn't stay there again. Not unless they made some changes there then I would consider because they were on a nice stretch of beach.
Sandals Antigua recently did several renovations and additions since my visit there. The beach they were on was one of the nicest, if not the nicest I have ever seen! Food excellent, service. There were a few things about this resort that need changing so I’m hoping that with the renovations/additions that it has improved because prior to these changes I have received some complaints of this property. Until I visit it again myself I’m a bit leery of selling it.
We went into town to do some bargain shopping which is a favorite of mine to do. I love getting local crafts.
Watersports are similar to other Caribbean islands. I will say it isn't very inexpensive, but it is just normal for down there.
As far as food, most of my clients tend to stay at an all inclusive and maybe go into town for a meal for the experience and fun of it. I ate at one restaurant that had pretty good food. I couldn't tell you the name of it. But I do know that it was one where tourists could sign there names/saying on the walls. So if you happen to stumble across it you will see "Mac" on the wall =)
If there is anything further I can do to assist with your travel arrangements. Feel free to email me and I can send you my contact info.

Its not overly expensive. Food costs around the same as here, but you can eat cheaper if you venture out into the town and find local places, as with most countries. Watersports are average, didnt find them anymore expensive than other places Ive been to. Antigua tends to be one of the cheaper WI islands.

Hey there, I went to Antigua last year. We stayed at the Hawksbill which is an all inclusive resort, it was excellent, the food was really good and varied.
In general Antigua is quite cheap though, take US dollars as they are more widely accepted.

Well, it should be expensive, since it is a resort place. However, get on the Internet, choose your hotels, and see their price lists for water sports etc.
Then you can choose, and may be even buy a pass.
