Continue to work with him on it. There are a lot of children that cannot produce some phonetics at that age and will grow out of it. If you hear him making errors, say the word to him and have him say it back. When he gets it right, praise him and work like that with him for a couple of weeks. If he shows no progress, then seek a speech pathologist.

Work with him on things that sound like r...like grrrrrr...it really is a developmental thing at this point. Some kids develop these skills later than others. Ask your doctor if you have lots of questions - they can tell you whether or not your son is at the right place in his development or if he may need some help.

Don't worry for the moment atleast..kids normally have such kind of problems in this age..they will overcome it sooner or later..but if he continues with that problem after he is 7 or 8, then you've got something to worry about.

back off!! he's only 4 years old.. give him a little time before you get concerned..

when he is old enough for school and theres still a problem with his shh's and r's, it can be dealt with by professionals..

my guess is that he'll be doing just fine by then.. those sounds arent that easy to make your tongue do, especially when your four!!

You might want to check if he is tongue tied. My brother and i are both tongue tied. Being tongue tied didn't hinder my speech much, but my brother had a really hard time, especially with r's. Being tongue tied can be fixed with a really simple surgery. (my brother had it) A really easy way to see if he is tongue tied is to see if he can stick out his tongue, if he can't he might be tongue tied.

Note: there is a good chance that he isn't tongue tied but check incase.

You ought to take him to a speach therapist or something along those lines.
