...when all of the US television broadcast companies are going to switch to all digital and the analog TVs of today will be obsolete?

TVs are just now (Sept '06) becoming available with digital tuners. What are you going to do between now and then? Perhaps there will be an adapter available by then, but who knows?

The last time I can remember something like this happen was when leaded fuel was taken off the market.

not many people taking you seriously xenon-they will when their analogue TVs won't work any more. here in the UK TVs equipped with digital tuners have been on sale for some time ready for the digital switchover which will begin in stages starting 2008. i live in Nottingham (robin hood country) and can expect to switch over in 2011. for those with analogue sets at the time all is not lost as you can buy digital receivers that will convert to analogue for their existing sets.

Basically you will just need a Digital Box from you cable company. Every TV will need one if you have cable, Just like Sat Subscribers.
As for the digital tuner, that will only effect those that have an antenna on the roof a digital tuner will allow them to pick up a signal and convert it to analog for their tv.
They will cost under fifty buck and be subsidised by the Gov.
oh and just about all tvs sold here (NY) have digital tuners unless its like under 20 "
Sorry to ruin you Doomsday.

Probably just plug in my cable like always.

Sorry to rain on your little parade of ignorance, but the digital switch only affects over the air antenna signals. It has nothing to do with the cable or sat. signal.

Plus, TVs with digital tuners have been out for a couple of years now.

Don't have that many TVs... will buy a current model, they are usually economical (if they are of the current technology era).. thats true with ALL electronics/PCs today.

So in 2009, Digital TVs will be affordable like ordinary TV sets of today... (they are expensive now coz they are ahead of their time)
Wait a while it will change - like Texas weather !!

Im going to have a field day Breaking all the tvs I can..Ill try different methods...
Like...
Throwing them off my roof.
Smashing some with a sledgehammer.
Maybe crushing one...
Drive off with one in my trunk and let it fly out and smash all over the place...

Ill be thinking about more...
