i don't know but it really winds me up, surely most of us long term pet owner can tell if our pets are healthy, i certainly can tell if my dog or cat has fleas, they are so common i don't need a vet to tell me, i find it a bit insulting, they want your animal to go through the stress of the journey, sit in the waiting room with other animals with god knows what ailments then invite you into there room to tell you what u already know and charge you £35 or £40 for the privilege, on top of that we buy the frontline and what do we say on the way out, THANK YOU,

It is NO LONGER prescription only - at least the pipette form isn't so try the site I recommend for the spray too...

I use an internet vet medication site and they sent me a postcard just a couple of weeks ago - you can buy it from them direct - they ask a lot of questions about the dog to sell you the stuff but they are a great site -

I get the drontal worming tablets and will get the frontline from them when I run out - they are cheaper than the vets too....

A lot of fleas are not killed by Frontline any more. Problem is, with any flea product, the fleas become immune to it. Talk to the vet and get some newer flea treatment from him. I think there is an injection they can have which is quite good and long lasting. Also get house flea treatment from them as it is much stronger than the stuff you get from pet shops. Also wash and hoover the entire house before and after using the flea treatment. It takes a long time but you will get rid of them eventually. If it is a really bad infestation, get the cat done and call the experts in to de-flea the house.

Frontline/Revolution/Advantage/Advocate, etc are all restricted here in Australia. They are available mainly ar vets, but some can be purchased at some accredited pet/feed stores. Though they are cheaper at the vet's
Yes they can be bought online, but they are vet/pet supply companies.
If you do buy online, make sure of use by dates and the postage/handling cost. Many have been duped that way. Thinking they are getting a bargain only to wait for a week or three and being slugged by high transport costs

I asked my vet to prescribe it over the phone and he said no, because my dog hadn't had a check up for just on a year.
Which made me really angry as it would have cost me a fortune - the check up alone is £35. The vet knew my dog.
So I went to the petshop and bought a lot of other things which are probably more dangerous because I've had to spray, dope the dog over and over again, etc etc.
Personally, i think it is a money making scam. Frontline is acknowledged as being very good. It is expensive, too. If you can treat your kids for headlice without having to get a doctor's prescription, you should be able to treat your own dog!

I honestly don't know why the frontline spray is prescription only, but I do know that you can get another without prescription in a good petshop I bought this for my dogs and it worked wonders but i cant remember the name of it really sorry! check it out anyway it wasn't too expensive either and really easy to use.

hope this helps

The reason that is is only available on prescription in the UK is because there are different strengths and if you use the wrong strength it WILL poison your cat or dog, the vets go by the weight of your animal..they are not out to get your money ..its just so you dont overdo it and kill your animal

It is the same in America, you can only get it at the vet or order off the internet.

I tried Hartz & others that you can buy at a store, but my dog would go crazy when i put these on him. The vet told me these were messing with his nervous system.
