Read the passage. He said that sword was going the divide the father from the son, the daughter from the mother, the brother from the sister. All he was saying is that" If you really want to follow me, many times it's going to cost you your family. I've got 2 brothers who will not even talk to me because I am a christian and they hate christians. That just comes with ther territory of following Christ.

The only time Jesus told someone to bring a sword was in the garden when He was taken by the priest, and that was to fulfill prophecy not because He is not A person of peace, but don't be confused about that thing Him being week because He is a person of peace, we live in A world that has A total death rate, and when He returns it will be as King of kings and Lord of Lords, are YOU ready for that even, are you sure, YOU CAN BE, hay free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com God bless you as you seek God with all your heart because it is then you will find Him. visit A Seventh Day Adventist Church in your area.

Peace to those have Good will.
Surely he came to bring peace on earth. If people had really believed in Jesus Christ, the peace that passeth all understandings would have been on all.
Jesus Christ gave a new commandment to love each other. If people loved each other there would have been peace much earlier.
The sword and division Jesus Christ brought is not to make division among those have Good will. But to divide the evil from Good.
So that the evil may go to eternal damnation and the Good to eternal life.

Although I think most of his message was dramatically changed and misinterpreted, statements like the one you cite suggest the fact that his message is so radical and so much the opposite of everything that our ego/human thought system thinks is true, that it will turn our whole world upside down. It's a message that said there is no ego, no self -- that there is no 'striving' in life, no striving to do good, to avoid evil, to get a reward in the end -- all things that are related to how we humans think in terms of a 'self' that is constantly working towards some end goal or 'bettering' itself. His message - like all those who have realized 'God' - is a major threat to people's thought systems and, therefore, it will ALWAYS be met with severe anger and it will be changed and misinterpreted. What we see in the New Testament is NOT his message, except for a handful of statements that made it in there because people thought they meant something else.

Because proceeding out of the mouth of God is a double edged sword which is his Word.
In the beginning, was the Word.
The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word became flesh and dwelt among man.
Jesus Christ is the Word. A double edged sword that seperates the saved and the lost

Jesus Christ is about loving. When He returns He will bring a sword. A two edge sword that cuts both ways. This sword is His Word. Yes there will be a division then. ><>

If I am not mistaken, you are referring to Matthew 10:34
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
We need to keep in mind that when Christ came 2,000 years ago, He did not intend to set up His kingdom on Earth at that time. One has only to look at the events of this world to see that the "Prince of Peace" (Jesus) did not bring peace to the world, but He did bring it to some of the most difficult places to find it...the human heart. Read about it in the link below.

That was a figure of speech. It's not that Jesus came to divide
us. Rather, He knew human nature. And how we would twist it
all around, to where a message of LOVE would turn into a message of hate.

The enemy is Satan / Evil / Death and will be destroyed in that order...
Jesus was just saying in this world as it is now, it's OK to live among the enemy, just don't become one too.
Jesus came as the Lamb to politely ask one and all to be good, but he will return as the Lion to rid this world of all bad.
In short, you have a choice, LIFE or DEATH, eternal...

Once more young lady, believers in God and Christ doesn't mean you are subject to mistreatment and abuse. If someone slaps you, turn the other cheek, if they slap that cheek, knock the hell out of them. The New Testament does not expect you to take abuse from your enemies. You have good sense, use it.
