We are APES and there is nothing wrong with that. There is less than 3% difference in our DNA and that of chimps. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having humble roots and then become king of the hill. Unless you believe like some religions will have you believe that we were born royalty. We had to fight every step of the way to get where we are today. it took us over 6 million years of awesome adventures to do it. The Jewish/Christian/Muslim religions would have you believe that we we are chosen and given the earth for our use. That to me is demeaning of our accomplishments. They would have me be a rich spoiled kid that was given everything and i had nothing to do with it. NOT SO. We are self made by the skin of our teeth.

Until a handful of decades ago, humans were thought to be distinctly set apart from the other apes (even from the other great apes), so much so that many people still don't think of the term "apes" to include humans at all. However, it is not considered accurate by many biologists to think of apes in a biological sense without considering humans to be included. The terms "non-human apes" or "non-human great apes" is used with increasing frequency to show the relationship of humans to the other apes while yet talking only about the non-human species.

I see the responses here and I'm still amazed -- people who know NOTHING about evolution form opinions on it! To those who consistently decide to rely on ignorance instead of doing the hard work: evolution does NOT say we evolved from apes. It says apes and humans have a common ancestor. This is why there are 'still apes around' - we're 2 different species that branched off! Neither one is 'better' -- we humans can be so friggin arrogant with our elevation of consciousness and other human characteristics as some 'high end goal'.

Actually it's the other way around... the ones getting offended are the athiests and God-haters that unreasonably refuse to accept the science and facts supporting creation of distinct species and NOT a rambling upward ooze of the primordial sludge rising against the 2nd law of thermodynamics. We are related to apes only in that we were designed by the same master sculpter, the Infinite God of Creation with a limitless imagination. Just the same way that any artist's art is related to the artist. But to hear people insist that apes were our great great great grandaddies does not offend anyone I know, but rather invokes more a sense of pity or sorrow that they still are so blind as to believe the big lie of evolution.

Early human fossils, such as Australopithecus, looked more ape-like than like modern humans. Homo-erectus was the first fossil that appeared more human than ape. Early humans stopped climbing trees and began running, which began the path to modern man. Religious people can deny that we're related to apes, but the fossils don't lie.

It is not only religious ppl who do not believe you are distant cousin of an ape. Many other ppl just feel that it is too strange to believe in this manner. Lions, tigers & cats are also not evolutionary from one to another as Dogs, wolves, and foxes are not.

Umm, actually, according to the classification system of biology, humans ARE a type of ape. Note that this isn't my opinion, but the scientific fact accepted by all professional biologists.

You got to wonder. Some people look like cavemen and all.
I try to put it all into a logical framework.
Maybe lesser gods made the first humans. Maybe aliens with
monkey DNA.
But at some point, God gave us a boost and made a better
human. And I think that was Adam and Eve, maybe?

The apes and all animals live under the law of the jungle....namely, might makes right. If we're just glorified animals then why isn't that true with us also. If I am 6'4" and weigh 260 lbs and I decide to rape a 110lb lady and then kill her, what's wrong with that, after all, we're just glorified animals. You say " that's not right". Sure it is. It's OK for animals. There's no such thing as right and wrong with animals. We're just glorified animals.
