I brought an a laptop afew months back and it has sp1 on it and ever since I got it home, I've got windows telling me to update to sp2 (which I do!!!!!!) but the minute I download sp2 and then restart my computer, I can only get as far as my home page concerning the internet. IAny and ALL attempts to surf the web are in vain as I get some sh!tty message page of cant be found, Ive adjusted settings, Ive screamed, ranted and raved and I just have NO CLUE as to why sp2 makes my computer completely unable to surf the web!!!!!!!!!!! I have until 10th October before the support of sp1 runs out.......can someone tell me why sp2 is doing this to my computer when other people obviously have sp2 and are happily surfing the web.

Go to the update, and set it to auto. It will download and install sp2 for you. Also you can manually ask to check updates. If you have done this, make sure you have the windows validation tool installed. Windows will not install sp2 without it.

If you haven't done that already, go to windows updates and click on sp2 to get you to how to install it. and follow instructions.

If you have done that, then I recommend to you what I did to fix the problem. Save your files on a CD, format your disk, install Windows from scratch and then download sp2 again and as per instructions given by Microsoft. I know it's a hairy thing but that's what I did and it worked.

Another thing you could do is to get to Microsoft by phone and have them help you but, in my view, it would be easier to mate elephant than to get someone from Microsoft to to talk to you on the phone.

Good luck,
