I feel so bad because my cat seems so bored! hes about 5 months and doesnt get to go outside often because of where i live theres a highway and im scared to death he'll run out and never come back. But i do take him out side im not mean....my question is how to i have more fun with him inside? i have a bunch a toy's i bought a fuzzy boa and he loves that i have the lasers and he has a little gym to sleep and play in. I still feel like he's really bored or lonely cause he'll set by a window and meow looking out its depressing, and i take him out for an hour or so but he still seems sad....are there some things i can do with hustler to keep him more entertained and keep his little mind off the outdoors? thanks

There are tons of things to do! If he likes to look out the window, you may want to think about getting a bird feeder. That would attract birds and allow your cat to safely observe them, without the danger to the birds or the cat.

There are several companies that manufacture DVDs or video tapes that contain sounds and sights that might interest a cat. Most large pet stores carry them.

And don't forget, you are the best toy that your cat has. When you are not home, he probably spends at least 85% of his time sleeping. So when you get home, he is all charged up. Buy interactive toys, that you can use to play with him.

The other thing you can do is to hide food and treats around the house for him to "hunt" for. Cats are used to having to find their food, so it may keep him occupied. There is also a timed device that releases treat filled toys at certain intervals throughout the day. I forget who makes it, but I bet he would dig it.

Please keep your cat inside! There are too many dangers out there for them, and there are tons of things to do to entertain him inside.

As already mentioned, staring out the window does not mean he's depressed. Depression would be suspected if he either ate all the time, or lost all appetite and interest in everything. Hiding for days would also mean there is a problem. If he plays with his toys, and plays with you and the toys (and playing with your cat can do miracles about his behavior - if it's sufficient, and daily), then he's most likely OK. Allowing him to climb places (like special platforms) will also keep him entertained - although your other cat may take up the high places and not let him climb...

Also, I never had a cat before him, I am not sure if I can really handle two properly (although I'm thinking about it seriously... if I learn about somebody giving kittens close to me, I may venture), so, I got him an approved-for-babies stuffed toy that is almost as big as him. Well, he grew up more afterward, but it's still sufficient for him to wrestle with. If your other cat does not allow him to play with her, a wrestling toy would be a very good thing for him to spend his energy on.

Is he neutered? If you get him neutered, that will probably decrease his drive to go out. A very little. But it could be enough, if it's done before he's sexually mature.

About the behavior of the older cat towards him... I think you should observe to see if the older cat is ever nice to the kitten, and if she is, you should praise her. Even give her treats. You may do that also when she is close to the kitten, just so that she associates the kitten with feeling well. You may want to check out the article at http://perfectpaws.com/intro.html about getting cats to get along with each other. I think if you separate the cats for a while, you can start gradually introducing them to each other as described in the article.

You don't need expensive toys! A piece of string, an old piece of webbing, and (especially) cardboard tubes from loo rolls, are my cat's favourites and haven't cost a thing, whereas the presents that people have bought her are ignored. And she loves to play hide and seek with me, pouncing on a leaf or a piece of paper that has been rustled behind a door. So long as there's variety she is endlessly interested.

I had to keep my cat in for the first five weeks I had her and she never worried about going outside until the day I began to let her out. Of course yours wants to go outside, it's only natural, now he knows the outside is there, but if it really is too dangerous for him or you think he would endanger others, why don't you try attaching a lead to his collar. One of those extending leads would allow you to pull him back if he was bounding off towards the traffic.

A 5 month old kitten has a busy brain & they're always looking for the next thing to do. It's normal for them to look out the window - a lot goes on out there! Doesn't mean pusscat needs to be involved, you have made a wise decision to keep kitty inside so he doesn't get hit by a car or attacked by other cats (my friend has spend $4000 in vet bills in the past 6 months because of other animals, cats & dogs, attacking him). All you can do is play with him for as much time as you can - he will be fine.

Hello to you and purrs to your furry kitten friend!

The very best way to entertain a kitten is to ..... get another kitten!!!! If that isn't feasible, there are some things that you might consider which may make things more interesting for your kitty cat ...

1. Hang a windsock outside where he can watch it blow in the wind. You can also hang streamers or curly ribbon, too. You can even tape some to the outside of your windows!

2. LOTS and LOTS of bird feeders outside where he can watch birdies come and go. CHIRP!!!!

3. Get different toys and switch them around ... put some away for a while and put new ones out. Tie shoelaces to your doorknobs. Put bouncy balls in the bathtub. Hide treats in your shoes. Fuzzy mice... fuzzy mice...fuzzy mice.....

4. Attach some colorful strings or ribbons to your ceiling fan pulls.... high enough where he can't reach them, but colorful enough that he can watch them move in the breeze.

5. Consider getting one or more of the following for him to watch ... (1) fishies; (2) pet mice; or (3) parakeets. We have two parakeets that keep our inside-only cats entertained for HOURS. The mice on the wheel were equally interesting to the kitties.

Our cats seem especially excited when they get to chase moths ... but I am not sure if you want to start importing buggly wugglies JUST to keep your kitten entertained!

If you need more ideas, just let us know!!!!

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm so glad to hear that you keep your kitten inside. He is still just a baby and will always try to run out until trained. A squirt bottle might help. Sometimes I have to "sneak" out to keep my littlest one from running. I doubt that your baby is bored. He might be a little sad that your older cat doesn't accept him. My Mattie is twelve and hissed at my kitten, Bella for months. Now they sleep together and play! There's always hope!

That's a trick query, kitties in no way become bored! They are too busy ruling the loved ones... stretch, yawn, purr, after which return to laying via the window and licking your immaculate claws!

Get him a kitty friend, Cats love other cats around to chat with play with etc. If a cat is left alone a lot, he really should have a play mate...Cats do not need to go out side, have him neutered..

When your cat looks out the window, he is not bored. Bored cats will eat and eat and demand to eat more... or be destructive with their claws or meow you insane. One of my cats will perch by the window sill and watch, watch, watch till morning. But of course he has already played with his ball, his feather teaser, his rattle, his food, hist litter box... and when he's tired of all that, he sits by the window sill to watch, watch, watch ... in case another cat goes strolling by ... yu never know!

Honestly, your cat is not bored
