cut circle of thin cardboard to fit the pot, cut slit in it, put around bottom of plant on the soil so that no soil can be seen, cover with a few pebbles to make look pretty, that should do the trick, your cat may like to play with the pebbles, if that's the case and she makes a mess take them off.
i know this works cos I've done it. i don't advise using tin foil cos my cat loves to play with it.

Cats naturally do a lot of digging about. If your cat is an indoor cat, digging in potted plants can be an especially big problem.

Try spraying the soil surface with a solution of lemon juice or put some crushed chillis in a spray bottle and spray that onto the soil.

They tend to work.

PS. Brits call potted plants pot plants (this is not a drug reference)

Hee hee hee ... is your cat digging up your pot plants or your potted plants??? (And did you know that growing pot is against the law???) Well, I supposed potted pot plants would be enticing to kitties, huh?

Here are some time-tested ways to keep your cats from digging up (and pooing in) your potted plants....

1. Put the plants outside.
2. Put the cat outside.
3. Put cayenne pepper in the dirt.
4. Put mothballs in the dirt.
5. Put orange or lemon peels in the dirt.
6. Cover the dirt with aluminum foil.
7. Tether a small, yappy dog to the potted plant.

You can also try squirting water at your kitty if you catch him in the act.

Purrrrrrr

You Cant its their right!....Get yourself another pot and grow some cat grass( you can buy the seeds from B & Q or Focus) they will spend hours eating the stuff and leave your plants alone!( well thats the theory!)

Apparently lemon juice is supposed to deter cats from digging as they don't like the smell.

Put another empty pot full of compost next to it and add some catnip.

Meanwhile, pee in the other pot.

These all sound like good ideas except for the obvious sickos. Vets and pet stores have safe replants too.

i've heard that cats don't like tin foil, make several tin foil balls
and place them around each plant inside the pot, that should keep them away

Orange peelings and pepper. They hate the smell. They also dislike Chamomile.
