It likely needs a prescription antibiotic ointment..Put 1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and stir until it desolves. then gently wipe wash his eye with a clean washcloth dipped in the solution.. If it isn't better by tomorrow, he should see the vet, to get the right ointment..You don't want to wait to see if it will clear on its own, as eye infections cause cataracts and blindness.

DON'T WASH THE EYE, take the dog to the vet!
If the purulent discharge is because the dog has a foreign body lodged under his eyelid, the last thing you want to do is apply pressure which may damage the cornea.
Make an appointment today and get your dog an eye exam. It may be just be conjunctivitis where the dog will need antibiotic eye drops or it may be more serious so go and get it seen to after all the eye is very sensitive, easily damaged but not easily repaired.

Could be allergies or he has something in the eye. Take a warm wet washcloth and gently wipe the eye. Watch and see how it looks tomorrow. It is probably nothing, but if it still looks the same tomorrow you might call the vet.

With eye problems, it is best to address them ASAP for several reasons. The first is that they hurt!! Second, the eye is very quick to deteriorate in certain instances.

Get him to the vet, and do not put anything in to the eye until you talk to your vet.

The best advice I can give you is to take your dog to a vet.
It is kind of impossible to diagnose its problem without seeing it.
Try cleaning it warm water.
