Have you considered that you might be opening doors not intended for you?
Often times we find ourselves chasing after something that's not really good for us... and so when things go wrong... we change course for a little while.. but in reality, we are really just chasing after a different version of the same thing.
The first thing you should do is determine exactly what it is that you are looking for. If you don't know what you're looking for... well... you might find it and keep on looking.
Next figure out if what you are looking for is actually something that is good for you... maybe you are looking for the wrong thing. (Remember... just because something looks good TO you doesn't mean it's good FOR you... ever heard the saying everything that glitters ain't gold?)
Once you have established what it is that you are looking for AND that it is indeed the right thing for you... THEN start looking... now here's the crazy part:
Depending on what you're looking for.. maybe it hasn't come yet because you are not really ready for it... (Sure a 10 year old kid may WANT to drive... but is he ready for that responsibility???) So before you start on your search, take some time and determine if you are indeed ready for whatever it is you are looking for.

You have to use your common sense to know which doors to open. USE your gut as well. Think twice before you do something to imagine the outcome before it actually happens to you. There are plenty of doors in life but they are only a few that are hard to open, may seem locked, but with persistence and a good head on your shoulders you will see the light in no time.

Perhaps its time to look out the window! Life is only a pile of crap if you are looking for crap. Look for flowers and butterflies, and amazingly, you will find them. Decide what you want from life and go find it instead of waiting for something good to just fall on you. Would you expect a lover to find you while at home, or out meeting new people? Would you expect someone to just offer you a job because you were sitting there? Get off your mental kiester, and go look for what you want in life.

Face it, you don't have to deal with crap if you just stop opening the doors. Often times the least crappy doorway is opened by a friend or someone totally unrelated. Even if it's still a crap doorway they're on the other side with their feet in it. So no worries!

the way I heard the asserting replaced into "If a door closes, then a window opens", which i admire better. To me it means you have a brilliant gamble for reflexion (to purpose to appreciate why or why no longer) and to seek for different hazard. i've got even crawled out a window or 2 in my time.

We in our imprefect mind sometimes open the wrong door. It's all a guess work coz we haven't the eyes to see through the doors (see the future). That's probably why we turn to God for guidance. Maybe you are at the verge of turning to GOd.

Try sniffing around a little before you open the door.

Life is 90% attitude and 9% showing up on time.
The other 1% is perspiration. ;)

Maybe it is a sign that you are in the wrong direction. Keep trying and you will either get there one day, or be rewarded for your effort.
