Take the SuperShuttle; it's like $30 each way and you don't need reservations, just report to the SuperShuttle stand down by baggage claim. Allow some extra time for the trip; it's a van service so other passengers will be sharing the ride with you. Their limit is 4 stops but since Solomon's Island is pretty far away, the people sharing the ride with you might take you a fair distance out of your way.

You will have to call them at 1-800-blue-van to make arrangements for them to pick you up to get back to the airport.

Supershuttle DOES NOT service Calvert County, MD from BWI
http://www.supershuttle.com/htm/cities/bwi.htm
http://www.supershuttle.com/FareQuotes/(2d0vmrbctmpbtu55mytveqq4)/ServiceQuote.aspx (Enter ZIP Code 20615 and no answer is given)

This is the best way I could put together with available public transportation in MD and DC:

(1) Metrobus B-30 from BWI Airport to Greenbelt Metro Station
http://www.wmata.com/timetables/md/b30.pdf - cost is $3.

(2) Metro Green Line to L'Enfant Plaza (service runs every 5-15 minutes depending on time of day) - cost is between $2.30 and $4 depending on time of day.

(3) http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/commuterbus/schedulesSystemMaps/902CommuterLineForWeb8.pdf - L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station to Prince Frederick - cost is $6

(4) http://www.co.cal.md.us/residents/transportation/bus/solomons.asp - From Prince Frederick to Solomon's Island - cost is less than $2.

Total cost is less than $15.
