Hi there...consider using Nature's Miracle (available worldwide at any pet store). It's an enzymatic neutralizer which lifts the urine odours by thoroughly soaking the affected area to let air dry. Repeated applications may be necessary depending on how heavily soiled the area is.

Here's a photo to help you recognize the product on the store shelves: http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/images/products/detail/large/June05/lg_50648_47f09.jpg

Lots of good suggestions for cleaning the carpet, but the problem is no matter how much you clean the carpet, you won't be able to get the smell out of the pad underneath. You will have to pull up the carpet (and that would be a good time to really clean it through and through) and cut out the section of pad that is urine soaked. Replace it with another pad section. Check the floor underneath, too and if it stinks, pour some vinegar on it, dry it, then paint it with a sealer like Kilz.

You might have to cut that part of the carpet up, and replace it with a patch of another part of carpet, the urine soaks all the way down to the wood, and it will rank, especially if its cat spray, and urine too.
When i couldnt cut the carpet, i would pour a whole box of baking soda on the spot, let it sit for a day or 2, then vacumm

cats like most animals do things for a reason, perhaps its to show theyre owner they are not happy with a certain thing or situation, theyre not out to destroy you but its the only way they can communicate by showing you! perhaps you spend more time in the office than they like, dogs have owners but cats have slaves! try to get a book called cat talk by an author called sonya fitzpatrick, shes an amazing woman, also has done a book called what the animals tell me! really worth a read! good luck

Fabreeze will be useless with cat urine. I use "Petzyme" cat urine stain and odor remover... its safe for carpets and fabrics. So, far, it seems to do the job when my cat decides to spray on my plastic plants and urine drips onto the carpet. You can pick up a good-sized bottle from PetCo or PetSmart for under $10 US.
After you clean the mess, spray the spot with anything citrus-cy (lemon, orange, lime) to render that spot unattractive to the cat. Cats tend to urinate in the same spot over and over again unless you do something about it.

When our cat did this we spent an absolute fortune on potions to remove the smell - none of them worked and we ended up having to replace the hall carpet.

If you have some extra cash lying around you could rent a carpet shampooer and clean it up right. Or you could call some professionals to do it and really pay through the nose.

The only way to clean up cat urine is to wash with diluted biological washing powder and pat dry, disinfectants and other cleaning products only make it worse and invite the offender back to urinate again. Good Luck.
