Tonsils are important in the Defense system of the body (belonging to the family of Nodes ). They produce the cells that act as soldiers of the body against foreign organisms. If they are removed, it is just fine. It is just that you lose one of the organs capable of producing these cells. Don't worry, there are lots of organs who can do this task. Hope this helps. There are dangers to any surgery, but generally it's pretty safe.

My doctor (and others) says that the tonsils are there as a safeguard for the lungs, i.e. they catch the infections that would otherwise go into the lungs.

So if you've had lots of tonsil infections, you may now experience more infections in your chest.

nothing it suppose to keep you from getting sore throats and any kind of infections i had mine removed years ago and everything has been great had to eat ice cream and jello for a couple of days but other then that was ok .

Sometimes during the operation .. you can bleed to death. 1 out of 100,000 operations on average. That is one thing that can happen if you have them removed. :)
