...a massage done by a professional. I'm thinking of doing something nice for myself and I would like to take that route. Do anyone have any suggestions for a first-timer on what kind of massage I should ask for? Are some tougher than others? How long should I get the massage for?

if you go to a school for message therapy, a student will do it for less. Call around day spas, prices and techniques vary.
Run if they recommend you to lay on your back and the masseuse is a creepy looking guy ;p

It depends on what you are looking for. Some therapists and techniques use different levels of pressure. Most last for an hour though some are 30 minutes and some closer to 90.
If there is a massage school in the area then there would be students (at least half way through their training) who work with clients for a lower price than most professional locations (students are under supervision of licensed therapists) they also tend to be well versed in each and every technique seeing as how they have not fallen into their own true style yet, and the coursework is fresh in their minds.
Check around and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Most importantly, enjoy!

It depends on if you are in pain or not a basic Swedish massage is can hit the spot. Or if you want to go in just relax then a hot stone massage can be the answer. At any rate they all wonderful and worth the money. As far as time goes it would do 30 minutes to see how you like. Some people do not like a massage.

The first one I had was a full body massage. It was nice, but I think I would've rather just had a regualar back massage. They are quite expensive....mine was $60 so be prepared.

Depends on your reason for getting a massage. I get them to loosen tight muscles so I always ask them to give me a deep tissue massage. If I'm just wanting to relax, I ask for a lighter one. GREAT things Massages....hmmmm, perhaps I should call for one right away too!

SInce its your 1st time, you should think abt what u really want.
But if all out pleasure and luxuary is your portal, then be prepare with some glamorious sum of monies, cos pampering does come with cost.

When it comes to intangible goods, it is better to patron those that are higer priced, in line with quality that you will enjoy.
