And I'm thinking that it's more than just being sad. I think my heart is actually bruised in the real sense of the word. I doubt scientists ever studied this, so it could be true. What do you guys think?

I've actually watched this on Nightlines the other days and there are medical cases of broken hearts out there! Mostly it's caused by a traumatic emotional event (like death of a close family member,etc..) in a person's life that cause damage to the person's heart physically. Medically, i think it's possible.

Words can not even describe how much my heart goes out to you. I am sitting here typing this through tears. I wish there was something I could say to make the pain go away. You do have the memories to always cherish and the love that will never go away. Sometimes it helps to get a new companion. Don't get me wrong I am not saying "replace" your beloved pet because she will never be replaced in your heart and mind, but a new pet may take away some of the sorrow you are experiencing. I have a Maltese and Yorkie that are just going on three and I worry myself all the time about what I would do if one of them were taken from me. I know it is a bit pre-mature but they have such short lives with us here on earth and it just doesn't seem fair. At least you had her for the years you did and was there to comfort her and care for her through her illness. I am sorry you had to go through the pain of seeing her suffer though. The only thing I can think of to say is that she is not in pain anymore and is in God's hands now and I am sure she is happy and care free. Please accept my deepest sympathy and I pray the sorrow within you will stop hurting so bad. God bless you and your dear sweet companion. In answer to your question, yes it is normal to have physical heart pain when you lose a loved one.

Depression does have physical affects on your body. The real muscle of your heart, is not hurt, but you could feel pain in your chest or head or back or whatever that is real. If it lasts for more than 3 weeks and gets in the way of your daily life go see a therapist.

If you are having physcial pains related to your having a broken heart, then that is normal, like if you feel a pain in the putt of your stomach or something similiar...

Neurotransmittors have been found in places far from the brain - in the intestines, and also around the heart. So it is established then what people have known for centuries - the area hurts when we are very sad.

No, I don't think the muscle of your heart is any less healthy or strong because of any emotional experience you have had.

You will feel better in time. Please don't worry!

I don't think results specifically turn up at a particular anatomy, such as the heart. But I do believe that being sad is not good for health.

I've read that the human emotions such as love, broken heart, etc... are actually in your stomach mostly, and it's so close to the heart, you think it's the heart. Sorry for your pain... it too shall pass.
