I am writing a play in which the characters are all women from different paintings. I can't decide which will be the main character. Which is your favorite out of these? Just pick one, please:

I'm an artist who used to write plays (some of which were produced) and I admire what you're doing here.

But may I make a suggestion? Why not do a little more research before settling on these few? Munce and Hopper and Picasso and Gauguin and many other artists have created fascinating portraits of women. And check out Andy Warhol's silkscreens.

Its quite an obvious selection so I would say maybe have a another scout around... no 3 is quite an intriguing character, however there is a lot written on this manet painting and on who the woman is. Dega's women and the mona lisa have also been investigated so perhaps you should use this information and then expand it. Just a thought!

It is an interesting concept, and if thoroughly researched could be an exciting piece of work.

Considering I'm a fan of Edgar Degas, I'd have to say number 2.

Although, I'm quite curious as to why the Mona Lisa is so smug... maybe you could shed some light on that.

I think the Manet painting might serve your purpose best. The girl knows about the world. The Vermeer and the Da Vinci paintings have been subject of stories already. Manet to me seems more interesting than Degas.

Interesting concept...two of these four women have been Hollywood-ized recently, in The DaVinci Code and Girl in the Pearl Earring, so I would opt opt for the dancer or the barmaid. Barmaid is my vote.
